| The "Good Condition" guns
I've read quite a few posts where people have bought the "like new to excellent" Yugo SKS rifles from sites like J & G or Classic Arms. I recently got one myself. My question is: Has anyone bought one of the guns listed as "good condition"? I'm seeing them advertised for $149 and I'm wondering what amounts to "good condition". At that price, you can get one shipped to your door for less than the cost of a new Ruger 10/22. |

Really is a crap shoot. I have one that I would grade out as good condition. The bore is Good with strong rifling and shiny. The bolt does show wear enough to make the numbers almost imperceptible. Where the crap shoot comes into play is in the stock. I see this grade, or "Shooter's grade" at Duhnam's sports. The stocks on some of them look like they were laying in dirt for 40 years. I looked at one stock that half the wood was rotted of the right side. The left side looked pristine. Too bad. I would have bought it but it was 200 bucks! My thinking is that if you are going to order a rifle get the best one you can for the money. If 100 bucks more will get you a much better rifle then wait a few months and get the better condition rifle. You will be happier in the long run.

Doesn't "good condition" also mean not numbers matching also, along with blemishes and what not? Or do most sellers specify one way or the other if numbers match or not?

This is exactly why I say, buyer beware! There is a lot of crap out there. You have a 50% chance of a good deal. You can always send it back at your cost though! As I tend to deal with private sellers, Marion, Tex, and others have more experience in the Dealer sales! Good luck!

that is why for the sks's i have purchased . i have bought NEW/UNISSIUED rifles guess what? i have never had 1 jam/malfunction of any kind whatsoever. i keep reading about all these problems folks have with semiauto milsurps that they could have avoided by spending 50 more bucks. as far as mosins go luckily they are so tough and simple that they are still functional after 60 years of abuse. they are so cheap the price of one just barely covers the price of dinner for two! and thats if you dont tip OR drink. i dont want to sound harsh but.... if you can only afford a 40 dollar rifle. that is what you are gonna get. dont expect miracles

I have two yugos. Each was advertised as being in good condition. One has carvings in the stock and the numbers do not match. The bore is pitted. The other is all-matching, perfect bore and only one small ding in the wood. Go figure.

For the record, a mismatched parts SKS isn't necessarily a bad thing. My Dad's Norinco is mismatched. I think it has 3 different numbers. It shoots as good or better than my matching Norinco and always has. It isn't in as good of condition cosmetically, but that never hurts how a rifle works.

So true. matching numbers counts mostly to collectors. It is kinda like the bore condition. Sometimes the worst bores can shoot pretty well!
