| Wolf hunting and cartridge
For you guys up north, how do you wolf hunt? And what cartridge do you use? I would think you would want something more like a 25-06 or 270 since they are bigger.

.222 , .223,.243 and 22-250 are very popular here as is the 12 ga. with 00 Buck for Aerial Hunting where allowed... Rich

Can't hunt wolves (legally) in MT,ID, or Wy. At least not yet, when they are de-listed, the individual states will set the rules.

Have only taken one, and it was using my 264WM. No problem of course, other than we both had our eye on the same dinner. The wolf pack and us were hunting the same moose. However as far as cartridges, a 22-250 or 243 would be just fine. While bigger than a coyote, they are really not that much bigger. Ron |

I imagine any deer cartridge would have no problem taking one. I dont really support the hunting of wolves since or area has hardly any left due to people just shooting them.

I agree, they're not much more than a coyote and smaller than a young deer. I think my .22-250 would be enough, and my 7mm-08 would do the job without question. We can't shoot 'em yet in the U.P of Michigan, but we've got plenty of them. Much more than I want on my own farm. I'm wishing before long there'll be a wolf season. When it happens, I may just be inclined to use my .45-70!.......Not that I don't like them around my livestock.
