The sound of a Yugo

I shot my Yugo SKS for the first time today. I was also shooting a Romanian SKS. I noticed a lot of difference in the noise between the Yugo and the Romanian. Is it just due to the Grenade Launcher? My Chinese and Russian SKSs sound like the Romanian.

I agree, and think it would be.

While I do not own one yet, I have fired the Yugo and it does sound differently to me. It is a different manufacture (weight, GL, etc) so different sound.

The bho activating is a very unique sound too, of course it sounds the same on every model, but if you were blind folded (not recommended) you could easily tell when the last round was fired.

As someone who was on the receiving end of SKS & AK fire; I very much doubt that anyone could determine that a BHO had operated or that a Garand had pinged other than the firer!!!!?????

I was talking about the shooter not the receiver.

I shoot with muffs and ear plugs as well. I just hear a pleasant sound of the rifle cycling. Both of my Russians and my \Yugo sound the same to me. Maybe with the hearing protection off they may have a different report but I will let all of you tell me about that part. I have enough hearing loss from my young stupid days.

idk if its because its an intermidiate round, or if its the way the rifle is designed, but i can tell a big difference between my SKS, my Mosin, my shotgun, and Carcano. The mosin, shotgun, and carcano are all booms that thump your chest, but the SKS is more of just a loud ass pop. it didnt bother me at all to shoot the SKS with no ear plugs. i can only shot maybe 3 or 4 rounds out of the other 3 before it bothers my ears

the grenade launcher has holes all the way around it to direct the propellant to launch the grenade off the rifle before the charge fires , but in answer to your question yes this does change the sound and acts as a recoil reducer.
