My choices for first handgun

Hello all,
I am very interested in firearms and am looking to purchase a handgun, however, I'm relatively new to everything.

Wanted to hear comments on the handguns I've narrowed it down to. It will be used primarily at the range, so I was leaning toward a 9mm-thought I might be more accurate with one of those as opposed to a larger caliber (girlfriend will be using it also). I know lots of people knock 9's because of "stopping power", but I figure it would be a good place to start. Also don't want to break my girlfriends wrist because I bought a Glock 21.

So I've narrowed it down to the Beretta Px4, the Ruger SR9 and the SIG P229. But I've heard the Ruger was recalled so I'm a little skeptical. I'm looking for reliability first, then accuracy, then power.

Do you think I've narrowed it down to 3 pretty good choices? Any idea which would be best for my purposes?
