Another option

A medium framed .357 magnum revolver might be a good choice for the following reasons. First, the size would be "useable" by each of you especially with a four inch barrel. Second, you could fire very low recoil
.38 special target loads for each you to use as a starting point then you could move up through .38 +P loadings to .357 magnum loads as you feel more comfortable with the gun.
