Flip up/Leaf Sights

What is the significance, i.e. model, purpose, manufacturer, lot, year, series, of not having a flip up sight/sight leaf on the rear?

Rather a vague question I think??

Models, different models had the different sights, simple.
Purpose was to allow the firer to vary the point of impact of the bullet thus hitting who he was shooting at.
Manufacturers tended to manufacture rifles to the same designs, patterns & tolerances.
Year of manufacture made a big difference, during the war years various cost/time saving modifications were made in an attempt to maximise production.
