When did they start making the m44 I thought it would have been 1944 but my local gun shop had one dated 1943 he claimed.

BUY IT!!!! There were just a few m44s made in 43 and those are worth a little more. Good find! rarity scale of 8 out of 10!!!

I am sure one of us would love a shot at this rifle if you don't want it. What is he asking for it?

There were only 50,000 of the prototype 1943 M44's made. Buy it!

Can't some one beat me to it. but I did get a cz-82 pistol with a serial number under 1000. still looking for the odd and unusual.

The 1943 M44 will be worth a lot more than a CZ-82 of any kind.

That's why we cruise the Big5's and others, hoping to find that ONE. Like the end of production 1948 M44. Not sure how rare, but almost new.

I have a '48 M44 that is in beautiful shape! Not countebored either. Really a straight shooter as well. No collector's value.

M44's were all Soviet (Russian) made until the late 1940's after that they were assembled in several east-block countries into the mid 50's and beyond.

If it is a 1943 Tula then that's a great find at a good price. My 1944 Tula was $125, and I though that was a deal.

Well you guys are posting about finds so heres one I found.......

Found a Chinese M44 in a local gun shop. Looked pretty good on the outside from half way across the store. Got up to it and the bolt was rusting, with some light surface rust on the receiver. Popped the bolt out and the rifling looked decent, but it looked as if it were fired and not cleaned for a long time. It was dated 1955. Then there was some Chinese on it. Can't do that. The bayonet did not look original. None of the parts were matching any numbers either. This is the first Chinese made one I have seen. The price tag is what got me. $75. If its still in there when I go back today or tomorrow, I'll offer the guy $25 for it. LOL, I think I am making it sound in better shape that it looked. It wasn't all that great. Whats the worst he's gonna do, say no? I'd probly be better off saving my money then for an M38 I would like to find sometime soon.

Before you right that type 53 off ,Remember there arent any more being imported and there getting rare and hard to find !! I have only seen one type 53 that had matching numbers.. not to say there arent any but its kinda rare. and if you had to go to 75 its still a pretty good deal !
I bought one from omega for 51 shipped and had to buy a cleaning rod and refinish the stock and it took 3 weeks just to get it clean .. As it turns out its a darn good shooter !!

Just a heads-up... SOG still has some M38's at $89.95. The one I received had the rearsenalled stock, and was counter-bored, but rifling and metal are in great shape and all matching stamped #'s.

I.O. has them with original stock , counter bored and rearsenaled for 98
