I Love Garage sales....

I went to a large Garage sale this morning early, I was the first one there, and Glad I was. I picked up a Winchester 1897 16ga. in about 30% shape for 10 Bucks, A new RCBS Bullet sizer and Luber for 30.00, a spotting scope for 5.00 with tripod, and a Black powder Pistol Kit for 2.00, and a Box full of Boxes of Antique ammo for 40.00...I got abunch of bullets, casings and Molds and handles too, All Cheap....
The Mooseman SCORES again !!!
LOL

It was assembled wrong, So I have to see what's up inside...It is Missing the Buttplate, but it appears in good enough shape with some TLC and its 16Ga. 2-3/4" full choke !!!
For SALE ??? I don't know yet...

I was hoping for a 12 ga....Then I found out the 16 Ga. are +25% in Value...especially with the 2-3/4 inch chamber !!!
I went back and bought More stuff and asked the guy about the butt plate,
He didn't know if he had it but said he would look for it...
He started pulling out boxes of Gun tools, Sights, grips Bullets, Gun books, casings, all kind of goodies...I bought it all !!! This time , The old Lady Told me to...LOL

Alaska Garage, Yard and estate Sales are usually great, especially if people are moving OUTand can't or wont ship ammo, guns, etc...
I found you have to be there when they open and hope they didn't let "Early birds" get the easy pickins before I get inside then scan the room for Man toys....

The AMMO is OLD....Very Old...
Rich

Well, I went thru the Model 97...It was re-assembled wrong by the previous owner...Everything is there except the Buttplate and screws, and it is in Better shape than I graded it at, after I cleaned the Crud and Gunk out of it.
I found a hairline crack in the stock...It is Fully shootable, bore is 98% shiny.
The Sear spring looks ragged on the edge, But it works...I will have to look at the bottom of another one to see if it is correct or not.
What a piece of engineering for those days !!!

Update...Serial Number indicates 1939 Production ! Pre war !

I'd rather be lucky than good. Apparently you have both going these days. Nice find. Try buying all of that for $100 at a gun show.

I was hoping to find a few rifles at garage/estate sales here, but nobody wants to part with their firearms.

A whole Box full of Giant fishing lures, Heavy leader, Halibut Hooks and a Brass Harpoon...12 Bucks...

Mooseman, you definately mas a helluva killin' at that garage sale. That shotgun looks great, especially for it's age. One mans junk (so to speak) is another mans treasure. lol Way to go. Never thought you to be a type with a bumper sticker that said, "CAUTION! I'VE BEEN KNOWN TO ABRUPTLY BRAKE FOR GARAGE SALES"... I like them also. I just never have that kind of luck..
