New SKS?

hey guys, my question is what would be a good first SKS? i am planning on buying one in the very near future, but im not sure if i should go with a albainian, russian, or one of the many others. any other starting info would be appreiated as i am a mosin guy and dont know much about the SKS. thanks, Johnny

Try picking up a yugo 59/66 at a gun show , for the most part theyre shooter grade an can take it, not to mention theyre fun to shoot

Yugo would be a great place to start. But I would advise buying the best grade you can afford. There is less than 100 bucks difference between the "shooter grade" and the new unfired condition ones. Buy the better grade. It will save you a lot of headaches.

The chinese models are about the same price and are good rifles.

After playing with those for a couple weeks you will want to start looking at Albanians, Romanians and the elusive Russians! Love those russians!

I have both ! but for a start you cant beat the yugo for value .. the norincos are much more in my area at least.. as tex said buy up as much as you can

I have a Norinco. Personally, I'd say go with Chinese just because it's less than the others like it, and doesn't have as many potential problems as the Yugo because of no grenade launcher.

the grenade launcher requires bullets to use it it in no way causes a problem

Just avoid the ones that were dipped several times in cosmoline. Picture this, its storming outside and your cussing because your new Yugo is bleeding the stuff constantly. Not a happy night.

What I mean by problems is from what I've read(note not personal experience) the gas port assembly can sometimes be a pain. Also, the Yugo will weigh more. Maybe its just me, but lighter firearms are more attractive generally speaking.

Chinese $175 to $250 or Russian $300+ best bet is to find one at a pawn shop or local gun shop possibly at a gun show if you can go to one.
