sighting in

i just have a few queares about shighting in my .223. i have heard that it should be sighted in 1.5 inches high at 100 yard to be zeroed at about 200-250 yards is this true or shold i zero it at 100 yards. i use it for hunting and benchrest.

On this topic it's every man for himself! You know best the ranges you'll be shooting at.
My own Ar15 is zeroed at 300 metres with the iron sights and scope is zeroed at 500m but I normally just shoot service type comps at 200-600m.

Its easy for someone to say that 1.5 at 100m is zero at 200m.But all rifles are different and it would depend a lot on your ammo and its velocity.You could try it and put some targets out from 75m to 200m and see where they are going.I use point blank zeroing a lot.

^+1. Look up the exterior ballistics for the ammo you are shooting.

i would try with the .223 remington sighting +2 high at 100 yds/meters that will put it in the head of a prarrie dog at 100 if ya aim center mass, at 200 should be close to on if not a little high, max point blank range is approx 275 yards/meters for a p-dog as they say that will be close enough for gov't work

Set your target and zero at 200 and there will be no question...
