| what should i get for a new pistol. I want to get a new pistol and I had my mind set on a Ruger SR9 but after reading what people have had to say about it I'm not so sure anymore. I want an auto, 9mm or up and I want it to be hi cap. mags. At some point I want to do some IPSC shooting. So I want something thats going to be fast and accurate. What should I get? |

| I was thinking along the same lines but I was leaning towards a Kimber 1911 45. Like you after reading about some of the problems people are having I am second guessing the decision. I am now considering another Sig but I really wanted something different and have no clue what to buy. |

| A good 1911A1 will serve you well for years to come. The Springfield MilSpec is a great pistol to begin with. I just bought a S&W 1911A1 and it shows great promise except POI is about 2" high. Doc |

| Yeah, a Sig will always have you looking for more money The Ruger SR9 feels good in my hand, but I can't get over the trigger. My personal recommendation (based on personal experience) would be to get an S&W M&P 9mm. Mine never misses a beat, no matter what I throw at it. They can be found at less than $600. The CZ-75 is also said to be one of the better 9mm handguns ever made. You can't go wrong with either of those. |

| What kind of handguns do you already own? As far as IPSC, you can't go wrong with the Colt Gov't Model or one of it's clones. |

| I didn't mind the SR9 while I was at my local gunshop last week. Had a nice feel to it. I did talk to the manager there and he was in the process of calling people who had purchased their SR9's about a recall. I decided to look....Ruger has a recall on them due to the fact that certain models made between october 2007 and april 2008 could fire if dropped with the safety in the fire positon. Just something to be wary of if you are looking at the SR9's. I know I like the Sig 226 or the HK USP compact. They are nice guns. Expensive but great. | The thing I don't like about the p 220 is that it is only a single sack mag The only pistols I have are a Ruger Super redhawk in .454 casull and a walther p22. they wouldn't make good IPSC guns. I read about the SR9 recall and it sounds like Ruger is really stepping up and taking care of the people that have the problem. |

| I'd like to see someone do IPSC with a .454casull wheelgun For IPSC, I'd still recommend a S&W M&P, CZ-75, or M1911. Glocks are also popular if you can get over the grip. I can't |

| Senior Member | I haven't much experience with pistols myself, but I find the Glock 22 very quick, easy to shoot, and they're only getting better in quality. Grab yourself a 2nd or 3rd generation and you can avoid the grip that most people don't like. I've also shot a 1911 clone(somewhat. Had Colt parts in it) and its not as quick, but still is fun to shoot and they're been around for 100 years and still haven't changed much at all so you know its a great design. I hope to have a 1911 clone by this summer myself.

| The 1911 should theoretically have a "quicker" trigger and action than a Glock. I think they saying goes that you can fire a DAO Gun (Glock) sometimes quicker than a 1911, but you can shoot a 1911 more accurately, faster than a Glock. If that make sense. |
