Winchester model 62A Would someone help me with a question about the Winchester 62A? I would like to refinish the gun but I'm not sure how to get the fore arm grip off. Can anyone tell me? Thanks.

take rifle down for normal cleaning. now the slide cover on the left side of the reciever, remove the one screw, then slide the cover forward and off. now seperate the action slide from the bolt. you should now be able to pull the action slide and forend away from the rest of the rifle. remove the 2 screws holding on the forend, and slide the forend forward off the the action slide. if your rifle is in decnt original condition, i would think twice about refinishing it, as the slide action 22 winchesters hold good value in original condition.

Thanks Lefty I don't quite follow one part. I take the screw out of the side but don't see a cover to slide off.

at the front left hand side of the reciever, their is a small screw-thats the one, holding in a small rectangular plate. not the big takedown screw at the rear of the reciever. foolow back the arm from the slide handle, where it enters the reciever, the plate and screw cover where it enters the reciever.

| Okay, I got the cover off and the fore arm is not coming off, it seems to be hitting on the magazine brecket, that is where it is stopping. I got the cover off but can't separate the slide, it seems to be hitting on the magazine bracket and won't go any further. Any ideas? Last edited by coosa; 04-15-2008 at 05:43 PM. | if you cant get it off that way, here is your other option. you need to remove the outer magazine tube. first remove the inner magazine tube. second in the rear magazine tube hanger, there is a 1/16" pin, you need to drive that out. after thats out, you can pull out the magazine tube. then the rear magazine tube hanger can be removed, its removed by twisting it 90 degrees (it'll fall right out after twisting it- its dovetailed in). |

YES! Thank you Lefty, that did the trick. I learned something today so that makes it a good day thanks to you. I wouldn't have started on this but the gun is in need of it. The first gun I ever used way back when I was starting to hunt was this model. Great rifle. Thanks again for the help. Coosa
