| I just don't understand the employees or owners at some of these gun shops. They either act like they are doing you a favor to sell you a gun or they are just a total butt-head; half of them barely know which end the bullet comes out of. It seems to be even worse at the gun shows lately. I don't understand how people expect to stay in business like that. Of course, there are many other gun stores that have some of the nicest folks I know working there - I guess it is just life - butt-heads in every profession. While I am on my soap box - one more gripe (like yall care). The owner of my favorite little pawn shop smokes in his store. I don't care if he smokes, but I have to come home and take a shower after I stop by his place! Man, that bugs me. I wish he wouldn't smoke inside his store - some quick stops around here have the same problem. I just avoid those.

| Don't worry, if your clean, it is your right to own one. Go look at some gun porn until you clear. |

| PistolCity - you'd stand out in muster, that's for sure... ![]() I guess they don't think you'd be 'uniform' enough. They were a lot more slack when I joined, and Zumwalt headed up the military. We had some 'hippies' and others who'd make you look positively "GI". I had my hair so long at one point, the other guys thought I was 'Guard'. Stores sure do differ. The gal at Wally handling my purchase of a .17HMR rifle had NO clue - she didn't know her stock, tried to give me the ammo with the gun - Big 'NO-NO'! She was more interested in kanoodling with her boyfriend behind the counter. One store I bought a handgun at, I accidentally gave them the wrong check... "DOH!" They gave me a frantic call at home, and I went right over and fixed it. He was sweating bullets - I guess the ATF jackboots would not have been pleased! But he knew I was good for it - this was the ninth gun I had bought from him.

| Threads like this remind me to love Mississippi. We may have the most obese, lowest income, highest teen age pregnancy rate, etc, etc, but we sure do have things made when it comes to buying a gun. It usually takes me literally 2 minutes to buy anything from my local mom and pop stores. I rember going to wal-mart to buy a rifle a while back, and I had to sit there for about 15 minutes "guy didn't know what he was doing" and I about walked out of the store. I can't imagine waiting for 10 days. Can you buy guns from individuals??? If so that is what i would do |

| you can be denied a firearm rather ya done anything wrong or not, it can be a mistake on there part or somebodys records getting crossed with yours. You can usually straighten it out with the NTN number and a call to NICS but either way your delayed. I had a guy try to purchase a pistol other day and had not been in the country to long but had all the right paper work he needed to purchase this pistol, NICS delayed him then hour later called me back and denied him and even wanted his address and phone number which is usually not good. Couple weeks later he came in again and said he wanted to buy the same pistol and see if he would get cleared this time, no big deal, if they havent contacted you yet and its not my life lol but when I called it in this time it was a instant proceed and he got his gun and left. |

| Well maybe I ain't readin' right but, what happens if someone get denied? Does that make it illegal for them to own a gun? Is it just a try, try again thing? |

| My AR15 came today, after waiting for two months. I went in to pick it up and they told me I was being delayed for a week so they could look a bit more into my backround. All I have on my record is a misdameanor battery, I should be getting my expungement letter in the mail any day now. Do I have to wrrry about getting this gun now? |

| My friend got delayed his first gun purchase and when you get delayed it is because someone with a similar name has a prior and they need to sort it out. When I bought my first hand gun I got approved instantly, paid cash, and walked out with it. No registration in MO, you can drop cash and go. Some years ago I knew this guy who had the exact same name as another guy who was a criminal. He got a charge for littering and had to go to court to pay a fine. He had tossed a coke bottle out of his car in front of a cop, and the cop wrote him up. When he got to court to pay the fine they tried to stiff him with grand theft auto, assault and something else. He freaked out and was like, no I am here for littering, after they sorted it out they figured out that they had two people with the same exact name and the wrong file got pulled that day in court. I had another friend who got arrested once for some BS stuff, and he had to go into court. His gf bailed him out and I drove him to court like 3 weeks later, all charges were dropped and everything was good. Then like a week later I am on my front porch drinking and it is late, like 3AM, and these two dudes show up with hand guns, drawn, asking to see my roommate. They were bail bondsmen and they had a paper work error and they thought he didn't show up for court. I had to kindly explain to them that he did show up to court and I know he did because I drove him. He was at his girls house that night and they wanted to search my home. I told them they better get a warrant. They called their offices ran his name and found out that the dip sticks pulled the wrong file out of the cabinet when they were told to go pick up some other guy. Moral of the story is, people make all kinds of dumb mistakes and I can see you getting delayed or denied for some dumb reasons, and if there is no reason you need to most likely call your local sheriff and have it sorted out. |

| I know a guy who wanted to buy a rifle or something like that, but he got confused about the form. He had been in a mental hospital for a week or two when he was like ten or twelve (Depression), so when it asked if he had been commited he said yes and of course, was denied. So now, he is afraid to try to buy any more guns, even though he has a completly clean record. He said he asked the clerk if something from his minor days would count and the guy said "I can't answer for you, dude." That sucks. |

| Also I told him he should ask for a background check to clear him, but he is afraid of being "busted" for lieing on the form. |

| Resident Armed Liberal ![]() | No, that in itself doesn't make it illegal to own a gun; it just puts a stop to the current purchase. But it might be an indication a person's not allowed to own any, or that at least someone thinks he isn't.

| Just this past year I have got delayed "not denied" 3 times for 3 different guns. First handgun 1911,Then shotgun remmy870 and lastly a rifle savage 3006 all I bought this year alone. I have nothing on my record but it gets pretty sickning knowing I have to wait 3 days here in minnesota cause that is the waiting period if you get delayed to take home my purchase. Everybody i know up here has at least 1 gun including some buddies in wisconsin and It just pisses me off. Last edited by noscopes4me; Yesterday at 12:49 AM. |

| Loveguns, Hi ,I'm from RI too. I gotta say something doesn't seem right here. Were you buying a long gun or handgun? If a handgun, do you have a blue card? Where did you go to buy it, I'm sure I know the place. Do you have any local warrants out for your arrest? I'm not saying you were but if the dealer thinks your drunk or high on something he can't sell you a gun. RI is a breeze to buy a gun in. The 7 day waiting period sucks, ( one town ,Warwick, made it 8 days just because the chief of police said so). A few people asked you why you were so nervous, I don't think you answered. Also, you said "they can make up any reason they want". That's just not true. If your clean in this country, no one can make up a reason. I just find it interesting that your almost expecting to be denied, even before the waiting period is up. "Registration forms still have to clear", we don't register guns in this state. AHH haa, now we're getting to the bottom of this mystery! My friend, first, lack of knowledge is not a reason to be denied in RI.(People with no knowledge buy guns everyday, then they go to ranges to learn ). Second, It was the dealer himself who denied you, NOT the Feds or state. The dealer makes his living selling guns, he's not in the habit of turning down legal customers for no reason...it's bad for buisness. In every gun store in RI ,you'll see a small sign on the wall saying "it is against the law to sell weapons to people who use ilegal drugs or, to sell to drunkards. (their words). I hate to say it bud, but if he personally denied you it was because he thought you were guilty of one or the other by the way you were acting, speaking, or smelled. Is that why you were so nervous?
