| What can you tell me about this Browning shot gun I have a semi auto 12 gauge wood and steel is in good to excellent co ndition it says made in belgiun and also says browning arms company st louis Mo & Montreal P.Q also on the barrel it says special steel 12 gauge shells 2 3/4 the sel # 9m 39120 theres no choke and the gun won't cycle with buckshot only on slugs. My questions are. What year is the gun and approxamit value, and is there a problem with the gun not reloading on buckshot. Anything else you can tell me about the gun would be well received. Thanks Brian |

| What you have there is an Auto 5 in Std Weight, from 1959. There are a lot of variables on the prices of these. According to the 29'th Blue Book, in 95% condition; Plain Barrel is about $450 Matted rib (solid) is about $550 Vent Rib is about $650 Add 75, 100, and 150 respectively for 98% condition. This assumes a matching barrel. From '59 it should say "St. Louis, Missouri and Montreal P.Q." watch for cracked their forearms because of recoil. this will hurt value. You can subtract 20% if it has a front safety. Whew, that answer your question?

| +1.... NOW, The problem reference the gun not cycling with buckshot could be due to the fact it's not as heavily loaded as the slugs and the brass "collar" that gets switched depending on whether using "light" or "heavy" loads may be in the wrong(?) position for functioning with the very heavy slugs. There may be a paper diagram fastened on the inside of your forearm showing proper positioning. If you're stuck after looking there and trying to google it, PM me and I'll disassemble my A-5 and let u know. |

| Good call! I forgot all about that paper diagram in the forearm. I think my Ithica m 51A (? that looks wrong) even has some directions in the forearm showing directions for switching between loads.

| I like Browning a lot as well, and almost nothing beats a BAR in my book. As for being informed on Brownings in general, not really. I sometimes get lucky and know enough about a piece to know where I can look up the data is all.
