The gun owners dream

In the marines we call these TDG's(tactical decision games). Now usually there more like, You have 1 platoon, a sniper team and a machine gun squad. You have enemy's here here and here and you need to secure this building. blah blah blah....Ok here is the scenario, America is under attack. Approximately 500 foot soldiers closing on your city. You have 30 minutes to prepare. You hear on the radio that the locals are setting up an ambush spot at your local Wal Mart 20 minutes walking distance. You have absolutely no gas in your car. Do you grab everything you can in that 10 minutes and head to wal mart or do you protect your home. Which guns would you choose? What is your course of action.

I personally would not have to go to the Wal Mart. I live 20 minutes from Camp Lejeune. I would throw on my green cami's, give my wife a pair as well(we gotta be stylish). throw my flak jacket on my wife. sling my AK(i only have two mags for it), and my sks(its all tactical and has a decent scope on it), load every single magazine for my AR i can, put them in my assault pack and we'd head through the woods to camp lejeune. I'd get to the Armory and draw out my m240b(medium machine gun) and head to the ammo dump, rallying all the Marines i can along the way. My wife would carry her .22 scoped rifle and be my gaurdian angel from the treeline while i set up a good machine gun position somewhere high where i could get some good enfilade fire(enfilade fire is where the long axis of the beating zone coincides with the long axis of the target). when in position I'd call her up, throw her the AR and have her cover my back while i unleash havoc upon everyone that comes in sight.

Now i know 500 foot soldiers would not make it far on a Marine base but its fun to imagine.

Sounds complicated. I'd just fly my imaginary B1A bomber over the WalMart and drop a small, limited yield, nuclear bomb and wipe them all out, including the WalMart. Then for shits and giggles, I'd find the WalMart headquarters and drop another one for insurance.

Personally, I'd grab my good friend, load up with my Remington 700 (.308 and as much ammo as I can get), AK (with all of my mags), SA M1911A1 (and all of my mags), and my 870 with a box of 00 and a box of deer slugs and hightail it over there to High Ground (assuming that the aggressors are advancing from the South). I'll also have my friend who I trust implicitly carry my AK and act as spotter for me and also try to get CB radios distributed to the forces in order to have communications.
Any extra space we have in our LBEs and Packs would be for Ammunition. :-)

You would see a 500 foot soldier coming from quite a distance. Maybe you could trip him with some wire like Gulliver's Travels.

I would call on my elite, highly trained and extremely vicious "Rat Terrier Attack Squad", unleash them on the vile intruders, and watch as they seemingly sunk into the ground as the RTAS chewed them away from the ankles up.

I live in a major city, I'd rally my close by friends, arm them and settle down in the newly created Fort Stitchclimber, and protect the neighborhood.

Assuming the advancing soldiers are prepared for any defensive action in front of them, a group of 20-30 well-armed individuals, doing a flanking hit-and-run manuver could wreak considerable havoc. Two groups working against both flanks could do damage totally disproportionate to their numbers.
500 troops can mount a pretty decent seige against a position; but 500 troops aren't much against a mobile guerilla force that knows the geography.

This thread makes me want to go watch Red Dawn all over again lol.

No matter what your individual combat load out is I dont think a bunch of civilians or even former military acting with untrained (at least in combat tactics) citizens would stand as very effective vs a large group (500 or more) organized and professionally trained and equipped soldiers. While a lot of us may own semi auto AR15s and AKs, and a couple of us might own some class 3 weapons its going to be a very small minority compared to people who may only have a bolt action rifle or shotgun etc.

It will be these weapons vs professional soldiers who are ALL armed with true assault weapons, machine guns, grenade launchers, mortars, etc. Not to mention all the other equipment like all 500 of them with radios, possible night vision capability and other logistical support. Think about it, what kind of heavy weapons would a 500 man US military unit be able to call in? vehicle mounted .50 cals, armored vehicles, air support?

I would think that if the US is ever invaded and occupied by a foreign military the most effective bet would be small fast guerrilla tactics whether it be in big cities, forests, or in the mountain regions.

I'd start hiking west to the Rockies with all the ammo I can carry.

I'd Red Dawn it for sure, I'm good at being outside for a long time.

I recieve intel the enemy is invading.

I dress rapidly black t-shirt, camo ripstop nylon pants, camo jungle boots. Possibly being in a firefight means risking incoming fire. I slap on my bullit proof vest. Not a vest made of Zylon or Goldflex which degrade from humidity and light over time. Kevlar Aramid is the only way to go. To stop most handgun rounds Level IIIA armor with a Level IV rifle protection titanium shock plate. I belt on my camo police tactical model vest ($69 sportsmans guide). I employ my Peltor electronic shooting muffs. Wearing the Peltors I can clearly hear a whispered conversation in the next room while cancelling out gunfire. Snapping them around my neck for the time being. It takes longer to lace the jungle boots than it takes to dress rapidly. Normally 15 seconds to dress when using slip on boots.

I slide my M1A from under the bed. I pull the ammo can of preloaded 15 round .308 magazines. Stocking the pockets of the tack vest. I include as many mags of .45 I can fit along with a bag of .357 on moon clips. Deciding that the shotgun will be too much weight with the ammo for it I regretfully leave the shot slinger the 00 buck and 2 1/2 slugs.

The 1911 .45 is locked and racked then strapped in the vest in its built in holster. The S&W 681 .357 in the holster is pulled the cylinder is swung open and checked. Then it's slid back into the holster and then into the small of my back. Feeling solid there.

Rapidily exiting the house I lock and load the M1A while on the run heading for the high ground. I do a tap tug of the mag verifing it is locked in. After racking the round I pull open the bolt and placing my finger on the round without even looking I know it is loaded. Let the bolt close and keep jogging. When the crest of the hill is acended I can see the enemy advancing up the highway.

Taking a position I wait for them to come into range aiming into the middle of the colums. I stop and get into my mindset taking a deep breath. I think to myself "Always cheat, always win, the only unfair fight is the one you lose." There is a big difference in being in a fight and going to a fight. You get caught in a fight with a handgun, you go to a fight with a rifle.

As I lay prone I take out my .45 ejecting the mag doing a tap tug then a blind check of the loaded round never taking my eyes off the advancing enemy. Replacing the .45 in the holster and locking the strap with the velcro. I pick up the M1A feeling the 11.5 pounds of stock and steel in my hands. Why fight with a .45 when you can nail them with a .308.

I take a bead on a target in the middle of the column. This will create the most confusion in my enemys minds. I pull back on the trigger then THUMP the target falls. I immedately back out of my position. Stand when conceled from the enemy and start jogging through the trees.

In a few short minutes I find another position and stand behind a tree this time. I lean against the tree using it for a rest. Again I wait for the column locate a target and take the shot. This time I pick a target on the opposite side of the column from me. The target falls but I am jogging ahead again. By this time I am closing in on the Walmart where the local militia is formed to repel the invading enemy.

I take up another position and watch as some soldiers split off into the trees on the other side of the highway looking for the sniper.
I watch as one soldier points out and yells commands where the scouts are to go.
I target this enemy and wait, calming myself, waiting for the target to
calm as well. I punch another .308 out and touch the officier. he crumples. The first one to run to him I target next and drop that one as well. I see some soldiers look in my direction.

Off and running again looking for the next concelment. This time I get ahead enough to cross the highway where I cant be seen knowing they would have finally figured where these shots have come from. On this side is a railroad in a cut. I wait crouched next to the tracks. Soon the two scouts come into view. I target one and drop him. Then snap to the other scout and drop him as well.

I change mags. A full one will be needed this time. I take up a position in this cut and target the first soldier I see marching down the highway. Thump, and another falls. I open up on the column shooting into the middle of them and empty the mag. They drop from fright or from lead. They open up in my general direction. They could not see me because I was so low to the ground. I take off running while they crawl for cover. I drop the empty mag and lock another in. Tap tug, check the breech and never stop jogging away.

I reach the Wallmart greet the defenders gathered there share my intel and again take up a position of opportunity.
My score 7 confirmed kills.
Up to 30 out of action dead or wounded.
Leaves only 470 more.

Shoot and Scoot. Sounds good to me. I like the choice of rifle as well, I'm just more partial to the R700. I never thought about doing an advance intel/slowdown, just was thinking about providing some "reach out and touch" support. If there was enough time and there was knowledge I'd also think about making some improvised claymores... I think those would cause an assload of confusion/causalities.
