| SKS vs. SKS
Ok as some of you know I got a messed up Yugo. I did not like it before it got messed up so I was thinking of a diferent SKS all to gether. So what is the best of the best in the SKS world. I found some good prices on Norico SKS but is it worth it? or should I stick to the russian or chinese?

I don't know much about SKS either, but I have a Romanian SKS. I have not have any problem with it.

Norinco SKS's are the better of the SKS's. Then I believe some feel the Chinese version and then the Yugo. Personally, I like the Yugo 59/66. However, if I could find a Norinco, at a good price, I'd scarf it up real quick. lol

It depends on what you want - a military rifle or just a good shooter? The Norinco is a civilian-market rifle that had many changes from the true military SKS, to reduce cost of production. It is a good shooter and generally reliable. If you want a true military collectible, then a good Russian, early Chinese, Romanian or Yugo M59 is the ticket. Many later Yugo M59/66 - the ones with the grenade launcher, were assembled for the US civilian market. It is these that seem to have the problems. Those that did see combat in Mr. Clinton's War saw rough service with spotty cleaning - so they can have corroded gas systems. But, they can have some real 'wartime character' too - I like mine for that reason.

OK, the SKS is what it is but buying any of then is a crap shoot. Thats why the price is so low. Odds are, another Yugo would probably be just fine. Never know. | |

i think that the russians are generaly reagarded as "the best of the best" but personanly i realy like the chiniese norinco. i am not however a fan of the yugo. i hear many more complaints about the yugo than any other sks. as well as its other issues that i have listed so many times that im kinda sick of doing it. but here goes, the yugo weighs more, is longer, does not have a chrome lined barrel and has the useless granade launcher. norincos are my fav. but yugos are not bad guns at all, i just think that the norincos is a better gun.

I like the chrome barrel but it shouldnt be a reason for not buying a yugo..I think people should buy what they can afford! If I could afford a Russian I would have one .. I dont have one Nuff said

hm the pic did not show for me in the first post. and i compleatly agree a chrome barrel alone is not a good enough reason to not buy a rifle, if it was than i messed up like 5 times! but in combo with other things while at the same time having a chromed barrel is an option than it might be, depending on if cash flow will allow. and i kinda meant chromed on the insight of the barrel not the outside. although since i dont have a m44 yet im accualy thinking of getting one of those now! i only have a m38 and a 91/30..... but i think im off topic now....

I'm not sure if this is appropriate but there is a nice Russian SKS on Auction Arms right now for $300.

Actually, from what I've seen, $300 for a decent matching Russian SKS is a pretty good deal. It's getting hard to find one under $350-$400 these days.

I got a Chinese and a Yugo. Next will be the Russian in the SKS. Prefer the Chinese and the Russian, but have nothing against the Yugo.

^i thought youd know, for some reason i didnt get the joke though... guess i was being slow...... i dont like the concept of a chromed gun i may have to defend myself or cuntry with, but i thinkone of those m44s would make a great wall-hanger!
