Armalite

I'm thinking about buying my first AR and was considering an Armalite AR-15 A2 .223 20" HBAR Black, any opinions on this rifle?

no, I wont be ordering it for another month or two anyways so hopefully they will have some more by then

Now it says in the description that it is black synthetic, but obviously looking at the picture its different. Does anyone know what the deal is with that?

Well they were plastic/synthetics when they were first issued to our boys. That's how it got the name Mattel Gun or plastic gun...It was all to make it as light as possible. They didn't want them to have to carry a 12 pound gun through all that jungle...

And buy the way, not sure if you noticed or not, I just did myself, but it says, in the title in parenthesis (M15A2). When I saw HBAR in your post, I thought it was an M16. Could be why only $899. I don't know a whole hell of a lot about them though. lol

Uh HUH. But it just means it's the AR15 A2 model, civilian version.

I haven't every owned anything Armalite, but I've always heard good stuff about them. Just a thought... Why not go with the flat top upper and put a carry handle on it for the rear sight? That way you have the option to add a scope if you ever want to go that route...

Well the one I'm getting from Stag comes with the carry handle and I'll simply take it off and wa-la, flat top. lol

16 designates military version, 15 civilian. A1 was the first generation uppers they used during Vietnam. In 1981 they re did the upper(most people tell them apart by their rear sight). A2 rear sights can be adjusted for both windage and elevation, as the A1 rear sight couldn't(just windage if I'm not mistaken). An A3 upper is also known as a flat top. Removable carry handle with the top rail for mounting about anything you want. Little clearer now?

Is it a post ban or pre ban(does it have a flash hider on it?)? You need to figure out exactly what your wanting this rifle for before you buy anything.
