| Senior Member | which maker of a 1911 I got to feel a 1911 style pistol the other day and loved it. I could pick up a springfield, witness, or RAA 1911 without much of an issue right now. The question is should I save my money and wait and buy a kimber or a used colt or any other higher end 1911? I love the way the kimbers and colts look and feel but right now they are out of my budget. |

| Senior Member | How much do you have or want to spend? But in all honesty, if Kimber and the others are out of your budget at the moment, you'll probably get better advice and suggestions if we knew what you have or want to spend. I went with this one and got it for well under the MSRP. Product: Model SW1911PD Pistol You can also get it without the Crimson Trace Laser Grip, which will make it even cheaper, but if you can afford it, I suggest getting it if you can...I truly love the way this one feels and shoots. The finish is also excellent. High Standard makes a reasonably priced 1911 and they are pretty solid. This one here, GunBroker.com guns: High Standard GI Model 1911 45 ACP NIB 45ACP (item: 97594109 ends: Apr-23-08 03:51:27 PM) Here's the same one only in compact. GunBroker.com guns: High Standard 1911 Crusader Compact 45 NIB (item: 97663411 ends: Apr-24-08 11:52:10 AM)

| Senior Member | Just my experience I have had the opportunity to examine and fire some Springfield Armory 1911 variants at the range. I found them very good in fit and finish and they shot well without problems. However, I am not really in a position to discuss all the other manufacturer's products. |

| Senior Member ![]() | I have owned a Norinco and now have a Kimber. I bought the Norinco because of cost. Shot it for 17 years and sold it for more than I paid for it. it was a nice shooting solid gun. Not saying buy a Norinco, but there are alot of nice shooting solid guns on the market. I bought a Kimber a couple of years ago. Now I have a nice shooting gun with pride of ownership. The level of pride of ownership and satisfaction can vary by person to person. I guess what I'm trying to say is save and get what you want out of the gate. I could find equal pride of ownership in a Colt or Springfield as well. |

| Senior Member | I own a Colt 1911 which turns 40 this year and it is truly a fine pistol. There are many fine 1911's on the market. You don't have to spend mega-bucks to own a good shooter. Personally, I feel anything over $800 is over-priced regardless of the brand name. He he...I paid $112.50 for mine forty years ago. |

| Registered User | Well it seems to me to be about what you feel comfortable with. However the when I purchased my Springfield it came with alot of the bells and whistles if you will, i.e. extend magazine release, thumb safety, dovetail safety, fancy hammer, trigger, etc. The two things I love the most are it still fires where I am it, and its very tight. But if you're counting votes put a check in the springfield column. |

| Member | 1911's Howdy, I own 6 1911's, 3 Springfield and 3 Colts. The Colts, 2 of which are 1918 mfgd, are great shooters for being 90 years old. The Springfields are my main Home Defence weapons. 2 of them have Crimson trace Grips, the 3" and 4" barrels. The 5" barrel is waiting for its grips. I love the 1911 platform. John Krzos |

| Senior Member | FWIW, I only suggested the Hi Standards because the member said money was an issue and both Kimber and Colt are out of their budget.
