Ok so I shot my no4 mk2 enfield today and it has the two position flip sight on it, marked 200m and 300m. It shoots about a foot or so high at 50 yards, is it supposed to shoot this high at this range?

Really, It drops that much? wow! I think I'll get a micrometer sight for it so I can shoot it at 50 yards with out having to aim really low. Thanks moose!

At a 100 Yard zero with a 150 gr Bullet at 2700 FPS. Muzzle Velocity the bullet will drop 15.9 inches at 300 yards.... Now you know why you Miss the target !!! Rich

A foot high at 50 yards is way too high. Taking you literally, a bullet hitting 5-6" high at 100yds would be on for 300. If you are 12" high at 50yds, you will be nearly 2 feet high at 100 yds, and closer to a 600 yd zero.

my enfield No. 4 mk. 1 has adjustable flip up rear sights...not sure what they are called (micrometer maybe), but marked 200m out to 1000m. it also shoots high at 100, i thought most military rifles were sighted in high. Of cousre i was using hte sight flipped up, maybe that is only meant for longer range so starting at 200 it may be closer to on target??

Now that I look at it closer it is marked 300 and 600 and I think I might of been using the 600 meter setting. I must of not of looked at the stampings very well when I originally posted.

The sights on my no1mk3 are different. But they only drop down to 200yards on the numbers. But it will go down further to like 100yards unmarked. And it has always shot high.I was told awhile ago that most of those rifles were supposed to shoot like that. When you aimed at the human form you aim for the middle of body and the bullet will hit in the chest.

Hitting high is normal at close ranges . It's something the shooter has to learn about his rifle(s) . for example... When I'm sighting in on a Whitetail and say aprox 75yd give or take , my point of aim is the bottom of his chest , putting that pill right on his heart thats about 6" higher.

I have always had good results when shooting mil rifles at 100 yds sighting the 10 ring like a pumpkin on a stump. In other words you line up the top of your front sight at the bottom of the ten ring. You ajust from there until you bullseye. Works for me. Only problems is with the older rifles like 95 Mausers when they are sighted for longer distances.
