Left Hand Pistols

Anyone know of a 45 ACP that has both ambi safety/decocker and mag release in current production?

No, but the M&P semi-autos are left hand friendly!

H&K used to make a fully left handed 45. I don't know if it is still in production .It's the only one I've ever seen.
My SA 1911A1 loaded series has ambi safty but not the mag release.

Thanks, got a P-85 9mm, but the new Ruger 45's don't have the ambi mag release. Guess I will have to go to a custom

The mag release on the M&P's are reversable.

The M&P 45 is great for lefties, and it won the 2007 Handgun of the Year from Shooting Industry:

My wife's a lefty, and we can't find one with an ambidextrous mag release.

However, I've disassembled her Ruger P90 and the mag release can easily be made left-handed with minimal effort. There's a spring that can be turned around, but the hole the end of it fits into is only on one side of the frame. From what I could tell, all you have to do is drill a matching hole in the other side and you can switch it over.

She's just gotten so used to using her index finger to release mags by now it's not a big issue. Rugers tend to get good ratings from lefties, by and large.

Southpaw shooter here.

Yes, the Ruger is easily modded by your friendly neighborhood gunsmith to invert the positioning of the mag release, but I have found that I just have adapted to manipulating things with my index finger as necessary.

Of course, this makes certain handguns a royal pain- I recall Sig Sauers eliciting a few very naughty words from me when I tested them out on the range.

For a 45 ACP, I am happy with my Ruger P90. However, I STRONGLY recommend upgrading to a Hogue grip- the stock grip is crappy, IMHO.

All M&P's have ambidextrous mag releases. They're very easy to switch around, and the instructions are clearly displayed in the manual.

HK

I believe you can get either a fullsize HK USP or a USP Compact in whatever version/variant you require. Those pistols come in any caliber*including .45*
I believe the variants go
  • Variant 1 DA/SA with control lever (safety/decocking lever) on left. Standard model.
  • Variant 2 DA/SA with control lever (safety/decocking lever) on right.
  • Variant 3 DA/SA with control lever (decocking lever) on left.
  • Variant 4 DA/SA with control lever (decocking lever) on right.
  • Variant 5 DAO with control lever (safety lever) on left.
  • Variant 6 DAO with control lever (safety lever) on right.
  • Variant 7 DAO with no control lever.
  • Variant 9 DA/SA with control lever (safety lever) on left.
  • Variant 10 DA/SA with control lever (safety lever) on right.

The USP is without a doubt an amazing handgun. The question is, does the original poster want to spend the extra money?
