My Pleasure.It is Sad More Information is not available on the model 219's & 220's. I feel they are one of the most Versatile accurate rifles Savage Ever made. I purchased a 220 (12 gauge, 28 inch barrel, with silver front bead) this past weekend at a Birmingham, Alabama gun show. It is a prewar model with all blue receiver with the metal about 99% original and the wood about 95%, due to some scratches on the left side of the fluted comb stock. Some details, for those of you who may be interested, the right side of the receiver has a circle with the number 13 in it. Standard markings on the barrel. Under the barrel, inside the receiver, and stamped on the stock under the butt plate are these letters and numbers: K over 21YM over LR18 over M. Cost: $150. I was glad to get it.

Congratulations on your Purchase. I have read a couple of things here that don't Sound right though. All model 220's Came with a Color Case Hardened receiver as did the 219's. The letter with a circle on your receiver indicates to me, that it is a Post-War model and the Letter will be the year of manufacture. I hope this helps, Hammerdown

Hi fellows,

I'm a newbie here. Just stumbled across the Gun & game forum during an internet search for a Sav 219. I'm looking for a (pref.) 32-20 or 25-20 if I can find one, or a 30-30 if I can't. I'm looking for a shooter, and need something with a bright, clean bore. The exterior can be a good bit less pristine (VBG). Can anyone here help, or perhaps have a spare for disposal under the right inducements? You can e-mail me if you have any leads. I'd like to say that this model Savage has caught my interest, and that I'd be happy to entertain a trade for some other classics I have other models of....more presisely, a model 99E in .300Sav (Excellent) or a model 100 Winchester in .243. Very nice! message me and let's talk. I have something of a collection of single shots, and would love to add to it. Thanks.

I can certainly appreciate your Yearning to own a model 219 Savage but they do not come along often. I am Very Pleased with my 22 Hornet and my 30-30 and have no reason to sell or swap either of them. I suggest you keep looking and Perhaps one will Pop Up eventually.Turner if you would Like to send me Pictures of your Two rifles mentioned I may be Persuaded to perhaps swap my 30-30 if they fit my Fancy. Gunbroker and Auction Arms have 219's on a regular basis. However, they may be the same guns offered over and over, as they are so high priced, they are not selling. Some of them have opening bids of $450 and $500 for a rifle with and extra shotgun barrel. That is way out of my price range for that gun. Good luck in both of your hunts.

I know this thread's been dormant for a while, but if anyone's still checking it, I just listed a nice 219 30/30 for a friend. Was his recently deceased father's and been sitting in a closet for a while. cleaned up nice and looks to be in great shape.

I would like to share with others tha Ed, who is forum member "Turner" In this Thread is a great guy to deal with. We Met Last weekend kind of Rushed in doing so, at The Smyrna, Tennessee Gun show. Ed, Had Brought his Savage Model 99-E along with him, and we worked out a swap for my Savage Model 219 rifle in 30-30 Caliber. Ed, shared with me that his Model 99 was very accurate and included a partial box of factory Federal ammo in the deal as I Included some Factory Loaded 30-30 rounds for him. I made it to the Range Yesterday and sighted in this Model 99 rifle and was very Pleased to see Just how well it shot & Grouped. below is a Picture of the rifle and Traget shot with it after I made the correct scope adjustments it was dead on at the 100 Yard range. If any of the Other members here are thinking of swapping or dealing with Ed, He is Golden and his Word is good about what he is swapping. Thanks Again Ed, I really appreciate it, and I will see you at the very Next gunshow in the same Location

My dad has one with a 30-30 and 12ga barrel, grew up shooting it and loved it. I have been searching for one of my own for years. Just found one that I will go pick up tomorrow and it has an odd caliber. It started off as a 30-30 and they machined it to a 30-40 krag Ackly Improved, which I know nothing about. It also has a 12ga and a 20ga barrel also. I feel like I hit the jack pot with this one even though I want the 30-30 barrel and would like the 22 hornet and some of the others for it. $350 with scope, ammo, brass and a case, very good condition.

Welcome aboard dleeper, And, congrats on a really neat sounding "shooting system". To be quite honest, I've always been a fan of the 30/40 Krag and the A.I. version can only be better; serving, I'd think .300 Savage type ballistics (pulled that guess out of my butt). No grass growning on it, it will be significantly more powerful than a standard 30/30. I'm liking my new 219 in 30/30, but still, have not shot it in the 2 weeks I've owned it. As a simple rifle made for those who couldn't afford a mod 94 or similar, mine is awesome. Color case receiver and walnut that rivals my nicest Ruger #1! How's that for an oldie? I was somewhat skeptical about the 26" barrel, but it handles like a dream. Light, with an overall length of right at 42" it will be a FINE rifle for both stillhunting (doing that with a single shot is what I consider the ultimate type of deer hunting) and stand hunting will be very nice using it. Does yours have the dovetailed rib on top for scope mounting?? Best of luck!

Hello all

I've just found this forum and this thread about savage 220. (no prefix) I need alittle info...I found a Savage single shot 16 28 barrel from Utica. I understand from the threads its prewar, my concern here is it has a red recoil pad on it that says JC Higgins on it. In the thread I saw a shotgun with the red recoil but dont know if its standard issue or not. I threw up the gun and it seemed to fit but cant tell if the stock was cut or not. They did a good job if they did cut it.

I 'd like to have it as its in great shape, but can you tell me if 1) the JC Higgins pad is normal issue OR what the length of the stock SHOULD have been so I can measure it at the shop and decide to buy from there

ok boys I went back and measured the stock on this shotgun and its 14 inches so it doesnt look like it was cut HOWEVER I have another problem...anybody out there with one of these 220 shotguns can you tell me if the lever to break open the barrel should move in BOTH directions??? this one only opens the barrel when moved to the right...any help is appreciated.

The Model 220 & 219 magazine release levers are supposed to be moved ONLY to the right looking from the top. Many have some back slack as they have tight actions and if you Lubricate the trunion pin it will ease the release and save on beating up the action parts.. Hammerdown

Serb, If the price is right and you like the gun, don't worry about the Higgins pad. Several people including Numrich (Gun Parts Co) have butt plates or you could always have an nice "Old English" style black pad put on it. I have one on my custom stocked 20 gauge (seen above in pictures) and it looks real nice. To avoid confusion, I have added this.....the picture shows a .22 Hornet barrel installed, but I later put a 20 gauge barrel on it. Good luck!

oopy if you cant find the barrel bands specifically for that gun maybe you can measure the diameter of the barrel where you want your band and try to find one in that diameter thats for another kind of rifle. maybe easier said than done but if you cant find the right one you might just have to settle for one that fits.
