IS it legal

It was brought up in the best ak thread, but i never got an answer. All the guns laws confuse me quiet a bit so any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
I have a russian made saiga. It is a sporterized ak-47 that comes with a 10rd detachable magazine.
If i add to this rifle a 30rd US made magazine will i still be within compliance. Does adding the magazine mean I have to have a certain number of us mad parts now.
Thanks

If you bought it from an American company, they should have already made it compliant with the laws by putting the correct number of US parts on it. I think that law qualifies most when you take a parts kit and buy a receiver and make it yourself. In that case you would have a rifle with hardly any US parts and you would need to buy those parts and install them to make the rifle legal. As far as I know, you should be ok with the 30rd mag.

You should be fine on magazines, depending on your state and local laws, of course.

The only problem is a Standard AK-47 Magazine will not work in the Saiga rifles... They have to be altered, or you have to buy a converted one for Saiga's !

I have the surefire 30rd which is all american made. I'm just wanting to make sure It's legal in the saiga without doing any other alterations.

It's always legal to add US parts.

30 round mags

I had to join this web group after I read your post to put out some facts.

No it is not leagel to put a 30 round mag in a siaga with out adding 7 other us made parts.

Adding US made parts is also not always Legal. If say you add a pistal grip this make the gun a fall into a new class and now must consist of at least 7 US made parts. Siagas do not come with any US made parts the way we are buying them because they are set up as sporters. "spelling sucks its to early"

All of this is spelled out on the ATF web page or you can go to the Siaga forms and there they walk you thur what can and can not be done.

you can also move the trigger group on the Siaga and put it back into the ak config.
Buy the way this is the same law that made it illlegal to put a hi cap mag in an SKS but then again we still did it. The best advice dont take advice read the law.
