| Senior Member  | Something I've found to help/assist with gun cleaning... Okay fellow G&FGers. I like to pass things that I find that I feel will or does make things easier for me when it comes to firearm cleaning and maintenance. I found these swabs that come in many different styles/shapes and sizes. Some even with different material for the swab. But the ones I'm finding work the best, are all in the industrial line. Anyhow, they are called swab and here's the link to both the company itself and a recently opened e-store front that is still in the process of getting going. But I feel these lil' buggers will make cleaning and lubing a lil easier and I just wanted to pass it along. As they will hold up best while using the solvents,CLPs etc.etc.etc... But by all means, if any of the other areas they make them for may work for something else you have, then by all mean, check them out also. This is the link to the e-store. | Member | Based on look at swab site I cut up a synthetic sponge-type material I recycled from some packing material into pieces that will fit thru barrel and cylinder with a bit of friction and push them thru with the cleaning rod--they are somewhat better than a simple patch and act more like the swabs--best of all they are free with no shipping charges. If you are imaginative there are probably many items you come across in your daily commerce that, if you use imagination, can easily sub for and may be better than purchased patches, swabs etc. |

| Senior Member | Can you be more specific as to what you're talking about s rosenthal? Post a picture of the stuff you're talking about maybe? The thing I like about the swabs is they hold what you're using and spread very evenly. I bought them to us with the Gun Butter I'm now going to be using on a few of my firearms. After seeing that 1000 round 1911 test Todd Jarrett did, made me a believer in the stuff. Well along with all the other recommendations that is.

| Senior Member | I have never used those swabs for cleaning, but they are excelent for applying grease and oil. They hold up very well and don't shed material onto your steel (like a que-tip does). I bought my last pack of them in the make-up isle...They look like same as the ones listed in the Industrial section on that site.

| Member | Hey GlockMeister: BaserRonin hit on something. In cosmetics supply stores they have small swabs (a litttle small) AND cleansing wedges (that can be trimmed for barrel cleaning) for makeup removal. The wedges are almost identical to my reference to synthetic sponge-type pieces that I cut to small size for intro into barrel for cleaning. Best part is they are cheap with no freight and you can "browse" the cosmetics aisle with your wife or girlfriend and actually have a purpose being there. |

| Senior Member | Yea, they are probably made by the same company. The ones I got and will be getting more of are for the industrial applications. So they'll be even more chemical resistant then those found in the cosmetic aisle. I checked the cosmetic aisle out already , before I found this site. I went down the aisle by myself. I don't care what someone thinks. lol. In fact, if you check out this kit, they get the swab in it from swab-it...And this particular kit is perfect and made for cleaning and lubing an AR for those who have them... | Senior Member  | We use them at work to collect DNA samples. I use them to apply solvent to hard to reach areas. Qtips always fall apart and cannot deliver enough solvent. Never tried to apply protective oil, sound like I'll have to try that |
