| Enfield Stock Question Is the wood on an Enfield stock supposed to be soft that I can dig my fingernail into it pretty easily? This thing feels real light too. Is this normal? |

| Light coloured stocks could be Beech (UK) or Birch ( US/Can) Any stamps on it?

| I'll post pics tonight of the weird stampings. I am planning on refinishing this one anyways. Would polyurethane make the surface of the wood a little stronger? |

| It was originally finished with Boiled Linseed Oil. For a sporter I like to use a thinned out varnish .

| In the end I want it to look like this: e28-10.jpg I am thinking polyurethane to strengthen the outside of the wood but it seems a little shiny for what I want. Could I get results like that with semigloss poly and some steel wool? I've used oils before on my mosin which has a much harder wood, It looks great but my first priority is to make sure this doesnt get dinged up more than it already is.
