I got mine on Wed at noon- it was opener in Wi.-real windy and tough day to hunt-no gobbling at dawn (same as 3 preceding days) @ 7:30 am lone gobbler came out of woods on opposite side of open field and fence from me--He was where I came across my fence-- he would NOT come across fence to me and watched, gobbled and walked down hill along fence-- finally disappeared-@ 8:30 am i picked up and went to neighbors where I though I'd be out of wind- no way so went home to get a couple of different calls and some coffe--took 4 wheeler to get back up my dug road-- also went too far and busted a strutting Tom- went back to first place and put out two hen dekes--went to sleep- woke at noon and about 5 min later 5 tyoms and 5 jakes came up hill towards me BUT didn't give my dekes a second look-one tom chased the jakes away and then i called softly- two toms looked but went back to eating- I decided to hammer them with yelps, clucks etc and they fanned out and slowly came toeards me--as they approached I went to quiet purrs and after an hour(read 5-10min) they were close enough to shoot BUT would not come out of strutt--I had seen 3 hens in area early so not wanting anything bad to happen I shot the lead tom-- 23 3/4LB-- 9 3/4" bears and 22mm spurs. So then i had resat of week for Honey Do's.

| Senior Member | tippmann7 Hi Ya ......... Pennsylvania starts Saturday April 26, 2008. I have my eye on one that seems to be very big, but he doesn't like to come in very close for me to view. I usually get some calls from folks that i don't even know, they ask if they can join me the first day but nobody has called as of today, Thursday so it looks like i'll be solo on Saturday. Widux Looks like ya got a good one there! Congrats... always good hearing other fellers stories on there hunt. So a big thank you at ya! for posting the great day you had. I won't be hunting till this Saturday, that is when PA starts, so if luck serves me well as it has in the past i might be posting a little something for the interested members.Take care guys and talk to ya later........earl |

If weather permits my neighbor and I are going Friday morning to my hunting grounds. My Step Father who I let have the woods the first week only called up 2 turkeys but never heard any gobbling at dawn the mornings he went. He just sat and called and because he had been calling a while he was'nt expecting the turkeys when they ambled up. He took a shot at the close's one and it left the county. Hopefully I can do better. One other thing that happened to my step father. He was calling one day last week and turned his head slightly to the right and he caught movement. It was a Coyote not 3 feet from him that was fixing to jump in his lap he claims LOL When he jumped so did the Coyote and it too left the country like the turkey did along with another Coyote that was not far behind this one. It scard him so much he didn't think to shoot at them as they high tailed it out of there. He left too ! Probably to go change his drawers...A.H Last edited by ArkansasHunter; 04-24-2008 at 08:59 AM. |
