Can't? How much have you practiced?

I've seen shows with guys using Bows on rabbits, running shots aswell. An older fellow at work uses a .22 pistol.

If you do anything enough, you can get good at it

Doesn't anybody think that shooting at running rabbits with a .22 could be dangerous?I am sure there are some areas of the country that are open and vast enough to be safe,but the area I hunt in is not one of them.I prefer a 12 ga.side by side.

I'm not so sure of that. I'm 5'6" and I doubt I'll be doing any slam-dunks anytime soon - no matter how much I practice. The lack of natural talent, hand-eye coordination and such, can't always be compensated for with "parctice." Yes, yes...I know...sometimes, yes...but always, no. That is partially why your see expositions of such feats. It is only rarely done, and usually only under very controlled conditions. Again, yes, I know, someone's brother-in-law's, grandfather's second cousin did it all the time and never had a problem. I wish I could too.

But, of course, the matter of shooting at running targets with a rifle is a bit off topic, and I apologize for the wandering. The topic here is "Favorite Gun for Rabbits." For me, sitting rabbit = .22lr. Running rabbit = shotgun.

My favorite rabbit gun is my Remington 870 in 28 gauge, shooting 3/4 oz. #5 shot.
25" IMP choke, and it doesn't weigh a thing..

my marlin mod 60 has gotin more rabbits then i can count. it is hard to it them on the run with a scope but it sure is fun!

I have gotta agree with you! If you sling enough bullets at the rabbit you'll get him but It aint safe or ethical. That's why I use a shotgun it shoots several hunks of lead at the same time.

20 gage #4's, when I usally see em them there already a gray streak scooting for cover .
If I had to use a rifle it would be a Rossi 92 lever in .38/.357 for jack rabbits, a .22mag or .22 hornet for long range rabbit's.
mabe a Marlin lever in .218 Bee, or S&W revolvers in .256 winchester
an really wicked gun would be one those FN RCP 90? 5.7x22mm carbines useing hollowpoint target ammo!
then again most those old single shot Rook rifles would have the right ammount of ommph, range and style and a wide varitey of neat old actions!

When I'm walkin' a field I use a model 60 with standard velocity ammo. When I'm ridin' on the truck "in the field"(nudge nudge say no more nudge nudge) I use a 12ga model 500 with #6 shot.

man, you guys surprise me. Where I live there is tons of open land, and there are tons of rabbits. I have a Marlin model 60 in .22lr and on the average rabbit hunt I can go thru a box of rounds if I wanted to, game here is so plentiful. I usually bag about 10 and go home, usually I get nothing but head shots, gut shots ruin the meat.

No i havent tried it yet with 110gn pills.I am using the 180gn corelokt rems.I have some 110gn pills and some 125 and 130gn pills to try.Will let you know once i have tried them.

When I hunt hare, I use a 20ga with #5's or #6's. I have hunted cottontails in GA and OK in open country with a coped 22.

i use my 22 on running shots cuz thats the only time i see them with all the trees and brush around here!

well, after posting, decided to try a load for 300WM. 8gr, bullseye, filled to base of neck with cornmeal, 110 gr bullit. After the "vise" test, found out that it works well, but a lot better rounds are available for rabbits than the 300WM. Note* smelled a bit like I was cooking cornbread after each shot.
