| Turning a real bullet into a keychain.... How do you turn a real bullet into a keychain? I am a teacher and one of my students asked me this question. He said he has a bullet for an Ak-47 and he wants to turn it into a keychain. He also mentioned he tried to drill a .22 bullet to attempt this and it went off. (I suppose he was not harmed). Is there a safe way to do this at home? |

| I would use a fired case. Maybe put a new bullet it for effect.

| 86846 - Inertia Bullet Puller, Easy to Use, Removes Bullets up to .45 Caliber - Manufactured by: Hornady Or if you have to do it manually: You need a vice, and not tighten it too much, around the casing. Then take some vice grips and twist the bullet out of the casing (use a towel so not to marr the bullet and don't tighten too much on it, dont want to crack the copper jacketing or crush the lead. (Don't stand in front of it and keep your hands away from the bullet) Empty out the powder and wash the inside of the casing out with drops of soap and cold water. Clean the bullet too. Re-vice the casing with the back-side facing upward. Take a center punch and center it on the Primer and hamer it out. It is going to pop, so keep your hands away. Now you can drill through the side of the casing. When done, put some loc-tite or crazy glue on the part of the bullet that will be in the casing and press it back into the casing. Feed your chain or whatever through and there ya go! Hope that helps.

ps, i guess there is even a legal liability issue involved if you suggest anything, you probably know that already anyway. you wouldn't want some injured kid saying "no really, my teacher told me!" Last edited by Troy; 04-25-2008 at 12:12 PM. | |

| Sure. I mean it's all metal and the bullet is there like in the picture right? So yea. I only ask because I've had several bullet keychains over the years and at some point, from using them as keychains and not kept them in a drawer, I've lost every last one. I tend to find them as fairs, but haven't been to one lately. So let me know the total with postage when you're done. Do you have a PayPal account? Makes it much easier to pay for both of us. If not, no biggy. But FYI, it's free to get if you're unfamiliar with. Only informing. Not assuming you're out of the loop. lol
