holy crap!!!! ruger 10/22

I bought one for my grandson, and it's the jammingest pig I've ever seen. It jams up with an empty round several times out of each magazine. I feel sorry for Cody, it really frustrates him, and I feel like we got a p.o.s. Is this normal for 10/22's? At this point, I wouldn't buy another one.

No jams in my 10/22, however the mag. gets bound up often and i have to tap it to loosen it. Not good for follow up shots...

Have your tries opening up and cleaning the magazine?

What Kind of ammo are you using?
How often do you clean it?
Are you using a factory clip or an after market?

I have found that the Winchester Dyanpoints work best in my 10/22. There are some others that work well but for the price I buy the Winchester, and I have very few jams with that brand.

As far as the cleaning I only do a through cleaning about once a year. I have noticed that when I strip it down and do a good cleaning it takes a number of rounds to get back into the grove. I have been told that this is because of the lubricating properties of the rim fire ammo.

Most after market clips work well in my 10/22, but I have some old ones that are worn and some times they have trouble loading. But nothing that frustrates me to the point that I would call the 10/22 a P.O.S.

I hope that you can figure this out for you grandson because the 10/22 is a great rifle and I would hate to see you get rid of it.

You need to use copper-coated, high velocity rounds. also you need to keep the action and the magazines clean. The most reliable magazines are the factory rotary models that have a seperate parking space for each round.

RonDog: If I over-oil mine it will have terrible feeding issues, otherwise it feeds flawlessly. Could that be part of the problem? Only other culprit might be the magazine, but others have hit on that. Wind it to specifications after you are done cleaning it!

Also, both of mine are stock and shoot excelent groups...but yes, they are as customizable as the AR-15. What do you want your 10/22 to look like today?

I put a boyd's hornet stock and a green mountain 20'' barrel on mine and I'm going to buy a hornetproducts trigger assembly to replace the factory trigger, and I'm waiting on a BSA sweet .22 scope to put on also

I bought one from Big 5 a couple of years ago when they had them on sale for $160 and I was unable to go through ten rounds without having it jam at least once. The sights also seemed poorly attached. I took it back and had it exchanged for another one and it hasn't jammed since. You probably got a lemon.

About the only reason a 10-22 jams repeatedly is the extractor. Replace it with a Volquartsen Exact Edge and you shouldn't have any problems.

You can check to see if the factory extractor fits properly by removing the bolt and seeing if the extractor will hold a case against the boltface without falling. If it doesn't, you can heat the rear of the extractor red while the hook half is in a vise and tap the rear lug gently to reduce the distance between hook and lug.

A simpler fix is the Volq. Exact Edge.

besides the bbl. that wood stock 10-22 is all factory with home mods done by me.
it's got an 8 oz trigger pull and is a very accurate lil rifle.
i learned how to do the mods on rimfire central.

i use factory mags.
