1944... M44... Tula... Hex???

I found another M44 Tula for the collection. I don't recall ever seeing a HEX RECEIVER on any M44 before...

... Of course I bought it!!! For $89 how could I not.

The Hex receivers are pretty limited. More common in Tula then Izhesvk I think, but still a rare find. I believe the common perception is they came about to aid in start up of production when Tula moved back to their original factory. I don't know if they were left-overs or came off of damaged rifles that were then given new life as m44's.

Very cool find Geo! I'm jealous anyway.

Edit: I have never seen one in person either! Very cool.

A 1944 Tula M44 should be a round high wall. If you have a hex it's def a rebuild, and a 7 out of 10 for rarity. How about some pics to add to our collective knowledge?

That's why I cruise Big 5. This was the last MN they had. When I saw the Tula star AND the hex receiver I bought it on the spot. Wow $89. All matching stamped with the magazine lined out and restamped.

Here is a shot of the receiver (you can see the bayo tip as well). I will send a few more pics as I get her cleaned up.

I be happy... Wife be pissed...

Hard to make her understand the "collectable" part of firearms. To her it's just another gun in the house. I have gotta get a safe.

It'll blow over. I just need to lay low on buying for a while... but that was the plan after the M39 (4 rifles ago).

It's always the plan. It just dosen't seem to work very well.
M/N rifles just seem to multiply .

GREAT FIND GEO!!!!

I cooled my jets. But the pull is always there. I stopped looking for a while just because I know that if I find something wonderful I will not be able to do anything about it until at least June.

Thanks guys. It's always nice to have a support group that enables your addiction.

But it is an interesting rifle, and I will keep trying to find out more about it (I've already checked the normal haunts).

mosinitis! i've caught the bug too! besides Big 5, any other places where one can pick up military surplus? i'm working up to getting my license, but once i do where do i start looking to buy good military surplus. Also, the Big 5 near my house has a Styer M95 on sale for dirt cheap, anyone have any experience with this rifle? the clerk behind the counter says that ammo is hard to find...any thoughts on this rifle? is it worth adding to the collection?

Yup. And it takes a while. After the 7.62 x 54R info the trail has gone cold, but that was enough info to keep me going. It's fun to own an MN that you didn't even know existed.

Tons of stuff right here... http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/cur...r-vendors.html (The Ultimate list of C&R vendors!)

I personally like SOG, AIM, and Centerfire Systems, but a lot of that is because they're closer to me so shipping is pretty reasonable.

The only hunting I do these days is at the meat counter at Fry's...

I have a good freind who has invited me up to his place by the Grand Canyon, and I will probably take him up on that this summer. He has been drawn for Elk this fall, so maybe I will trek along with them as well.
