Double Star?? Any info on this maker??

AIM Double Star S-15 .223/5.56 M4 Rifle Double Star S-15 .223/5.56 M4 Rifle

AIM has these.. I'll be the first to say that I'm not really interested in "black rifles", but, much like my AK, I want to purchase one before I can't purchase one (if you know what I mean)..

Anyway, any reports on this rifle?? Junk?? So-so?? Nice pc??

Ok.. I found this.. They like it..

I haven't owned one so I couldn't tell you first hand, but for just a plinking gun I think it would be fine. I am not sure you would want to make it your primary homeland defender assault weapon like a top tier manufacture. Not a bad price, but if you buy parts like a lower and LPK you can put together a better quality rifle for just a few bucks more.

Aim has the CMMG complete lower for $180, CMMG is a great manufacturer and that is a steal. I would go that route for sure.

Double Star

Paper: Sir; I don't know squat about 'Black Rifles' but I did a quick "Google" and found a bunch of reference type material.

Double Star Firearms. Maybe this'll help?

Ok.. I don't know squat about building a rifle like this..

Please point me in the right direction, or give me some basic info to get started..

The good news is that I have a future father in law that DOES know about this stuff.. Brain picking time..

It's not that hard. I put mine together from a stripped lower, lower parts kits, buttstock and complete upper.

It was pretty sweet, building up a weapon that way. I have another empty stripped receiver for my next build.

Double Star makes good stuff. Their lowers are as good a quality as you'll find, their uppers are also. They've got a huge selection of stuff to pick from, and their prices are very fair.

Building a rifle like this is very easy. However, I would buy a complete upper as putting an upper together takes a little more skill and a few more tools. Your best bet would be to buy a stripped lower and go to Del-Ton and buy a kit. The first thing you need to figure out is what you want this rifle for? Just for the range, SHTF, hunting...

As far as what the rifle would be for.. Well.. Not much...

I'm sure I'd use it at the range once in a while, but for home defense I've got plenty of handcannons and an attack cat who will fight to the death in order to protect her wood stove (unless it's hot out)..

I basically want one because someday I might not be able to purchase one. It might seem like a dumb reason, but it's the truth.. I have defense weapons, and I have hunting rifles from a .17 HMR to a .300 Win Mag, with everything (sometimes 2 or 3 of each) in between.. (which is what the "Oh Gawd" came from)

I picked up an AK last fall for the same reason.. Great gun, but other than "plinking", I have it just to have it.

If you buy the complete lower the lower is already assembled for you. I am not going to knock Double Star, but for the same money you can piece together a CMMG, who is on par with LMT. The lower already put together minus the stock assembly is $180, not bad. If you order from the internet you are going to have to pay the FFL fee whether it be a lower or complete rifle. AIM charges .01 for shipping.

Though, if you are not going to become obsessed with the black rifle disease, a ready to fire complete rifle maybe the way to go.

Thanks everyone!!

And I don't mean to poo-poo tactical rifles.. I just have a personal desire for rifles that use wood.. I appreciate the AR style rifles, but when I walk into a gun store, I gravitate towards beautiful wood and walk past most plastic.. I've got a few synthetic stocked rifles, but I look at them as tools, where my wood stocked rifles are objects to be cherished..

I'll have to do some thinking before pulling the trigger on an AR or building one..
