The freezer works until you lose power. But water dosen't spoil unless it gets opened.

How long does bottled water last?
The FDA considers bottled water to have an indefinite shelf life if it’s produced in accordance with regulations and remains unopened. Therefore, expiration dates on bottles are voluntary, and may reflect concerns for taste and odor rather than safety. Bottled water should be stored in a cool location away from direct sunlight.

I would get some water purification kits either the filter or the one like J.C.Whitney carries.

Pontiac,
Get a food saver vacuum machine and seal your dry goods in manageable single use servings. Store these in a large ammo can in a cool dry place in your home. Rice is a good staple but has practically zero nutritional value so you will need to stock up on other foods as well.
I use the food saver to seal a multitude of things; including firearms and ammo...a valuable investment but you need to do it before the denki is shut off unless you have a generator.

The idea is to beat them to the punch. Not only will I have their stored food stuffs, but with a good skinning knife, think of all the jerky I could get out of a 180lb human being. Not too chewy either. Zombies look like that because they eat it raw.

Can I safely store water in my camel pack? What could I put in there to keep it safe? Like a shot of vodka in a 2L pouch? I figure if I need to leave quickly I might not have the time or capability to fill it up.

Also, I have those water-purification tablets. Would it be safe to add those into a full camel pack and then leave it indefinately?

Or, could I at least just empty it out, wash it, and refil it every few months and be fine?

the key is keeping them cool. Once they start heating up they water will evaporate out. Also why don't you just can some of you own goods. My wife's grandparents have stuff in their basement that was canned 5-10years ago and its still good. Some stuff goes bad but that mainly deals with the seal on the jar. They got everything from a whole country hams, green beans, okra, corn, soup, sourkraut, tomatoes, pickles, pintos, peppers, turnip greens, WINE, and they even have some sausage that they canned. Just dump in in a frying pan and you wouldn't know the difference. The only problem is that the jars could be a little fragile for when the SHTF.

One point about bottled water. The plastic the bottles are made out of contains chemicals that leach out of the plastic into the water. Those chemicals are not good for you. If you are looking to store water, you need to look at buying a lot of the old 5-gallon glass water cooler bottles which you then sulfite out and fill with pure water, then seal with corks and wax. Otherwise, continue buying bottled water in plastic but also buy an MSR water filter to go with it. A MiniWorks II is an excellent one. It will filter out the chemicals that leached into the water.

I'll grant you that in a SHTF scenario plastic chemicals in bottled water ranks low on the problems list. But also bear in mind that in said scenario you might not have access to hospitals or doctors. If you can eliminate a problem before you have to deal with it, why wouldn't you?

I replace the stored water I have every six months. Most municipal water is treated and can be stored with no further treatment. If you get water from a well, then bleach treatment is needed, and should be redone periodically, as the chlorine evaporates out.
Water bladders are not good for storage - the water takes on the plastic taste, and it can develop microcritters. I keep a rugged bottle of water in the car, and can fill the hydration-pack bladder fairly quickly. I have safely drunk water from US GI canteens after sitting in the car/on the bike for a month or more. There is sometimes a 'taste', but I'm still here, and no 'runs'.

Andrew, chickens are good - but noisy! For remaining a 'gray man' in 'de hood', I'd favor rabbits. I also have squirrels in my AO, and often in my yard. I have proven I can take them with my quiet Red Ryder.
