push button yelper

i have a H.S.STRUT push button yelper call and its the only call i have for turkeys (my box call broke). i know how to call but this call doesnt have very good sound, it sort of sounds like a turkey but i dont think its convinsing enough because its kind of squeaky. anyone tried this and have any luck? im going hunting tomorow morning and am going to try it.

No experience with the yelper. Have you tried mouth calls, or a slate calls? They are the best for turkey in my opinion.

Yeah they are hard. I tried for about two weeks going by the directions on the package. Then a friend showed me how to really do it. It took about 10 minutes and then I had it. Doing the mouth call and the slate at the same time sounds real good.

The push buttons aren't bad, they add a different sound to your arsenal. I bring 3 mouth calls, a box call, a slate call and my push button with me when I go turkey hunting.

It might sound like a lot, but some birds respond to diffrent sound better, so I bring as many as I can.

If it is raining, I would really consider hunting or at least doing a lot of scouting this evening.

How long have you guys been hunting? This is only my second year. I hunt state ground and we have to out of the field by noon. I do have property lined up for next year so it will make it a lot easier to scout and hunt all day.

I would check Rural King if you have one of them around you. Or try e-bay. I got my mouth and slate calls from Rural King for about 20.00 for both of them. The mouth calls were a 3 pack. Want to see some pictures if you get a turkey. Do you ever get on Mossy Oaks web site? They have a lot of turkey hunting videos you can watch.

I have hunted turkey for 8 years. A 25 dollar box call is one of the best investmets you can make as a turkey hunter. For 25 dollars, you can have a good call that is easy to run. It is hard to make a box call sound bad. A turkey's hearing is pretty good, so don't feel the need to try and use a mouth call right away. A lot of turkeys can be called in by using a box call and a slate.

Good work Tippman. Nothing sounds better than a good slate. Thats what I like about hunting later seasons-you get the good end of season sales.

The birds are harder to get, but they are still huntable. I start bow hunting in a couple weeks.

Wal Mart stays open 24 hours so go to Wal Mart and pick you up another box turkey call.

And then if you score a turkey come back here and tell us all about it please...A.H

I have a Quaker boy inc., The "Little one sider box call. Its tone is a little high which i like because the other call is a "True Tone".Rodger Latham It is made by Penns Woods Products in Delmont, PA. This one has bagged me so many turkeys i quit counting ...LOL
Its on the large size but has a great sound that is what i'll call perfect. Mixing both calls is my favorite, the smaller one resembles a younger female and the larger one by
R. Latham is a more mature sounding call. I would like to try the push button since it will leave your hand right on the gun without softly placing the two calls on the ground when the bird comes in. But the two that i have i will just stay with. That call that you have, does it need some chalk possible on the push stick? I use the childs colored soft chalk on the both of mine and keep a stick inside each. Nope.... it will not change the tone very much thats its inside the box, besides it keeps it dry . Hey good luck and i hope i helped you,i am not the expert but this always calls them in if they are around.

+1... the only thing I'd add is that I'd always like a push-button call handy when hunting alone as when the bird gets within sight...using that push button yelper is the easiest thing to do, NEXT to a mouth call. Some of the older H.S. Strut calls (I have one) can be sanded with a piece of sandpaper on the flat surface to give it some roughness to make it "yelp" a bit better. Mine is about 10 yrs old and needs this occasionally.

If you put a little pressure on it, you can make it louder and it's easier to yelp with. Just push on the piece that rubs on the piece inside the box and keep it chalked. When they come out with one called a Shameless Hussy, that will be the one I buy.
