Steyer M95 and pics

Stock looks in need of some care. I was thinking about sanding it down and refinishing it with a new color (thinking a nice deep red color) and paint on a nice clear coat or two. Or would that devalue it? So far as I can tell, everything is matching. I couldn't find any numbers on the mag and trigger assy. But there are no stampovers or anything like that of numbers. The bore however seems to be in a sad state of appearance. It looks like it has seen better days. But I guess for $85 its not a bad deal. Anyways, questions, comments, suggestions, opinions always welcome.

Wow you got yourself a fine old battle rifle. Just look at that patina on the reciever. I bet that was used in more than one war.

Its up to you if you want to refinish it or not. If you refinish it it is worth less than original. But that is why I dont say anything if someone wants to refinish their rifle. Makes mine more valuable.

Personally if you are going to refinish this Steyr I think they look a lot better as blondes than they do as redheads. But thats up to you to choose.

After thinking on it a lil Iron Colonel I would refinish this rifle's wood. I dont think I would touch the metal with that patina on it like it has. And you are right keep it a redhead. Of course its your rifle and what ever you do Im sure it will come out great. You have a very nice Steyr there and I know your going to be surprised when you first fire it.

Have you had any luck finding ammo for it? That's why I didn't buy one, I couldn't find cheap surplus ammo like for the Mosin's.

I got mine, figuring I'd use my buddy's 8X56 dies and reload, once I get the brass and bullets for it.
He was starting to make some though, and found a serious problem - buggered case! It seems Lee sent the die set with an 8X57 sizer die!! Whoa.....
He's contacting them to get the proper die - check them before using!!

Me and a buddy both bought our steyrs at the same time. We paid $39 each for them. At the same time we split a case of the nazi ammo 750 rounds for $32. on clips. So $16 bucks each for half a case each. But I have to admit I feel a little funny blasting off the ammo with the iron eagles on it. Feels like Im destroying history.
