Body Armor

If This is already a thread , Sorry I missed it.. In my go bag and in my truck I have personal body armor vests , 1 is rated at 3a with inserts that says it will protect against 7.62x39 (the evil AK round) I'm not looking forward to testing that theory. and the other is soft concealed 2A armor not good for anything larger than a 357. I had an old 80's era flack vest that I took to the range and punched holes thru and thru with 9mm (ball ammo) So if you have one in your kit, give it to your mother in-law . does anybody know what the level of protection increas would be if you took two (2) level 2A vests and stacked them inside one carrier ?

Lets assume you have two pieces of paper, and a .22 Short.

=] Probably kinda like that.

I have a bullet proff vest. Though I don't think I'll ever need it, I've got one.

I don't know if you should carry it in your truck because if your ever pulled over and searched it might cause you to have to answear some un-wanted questions.

No having body armor won't necessarily cause unwanted questions, but having body armor, 200 lbs of ammonium nitrate, blasting caps and a manifesto in your car or truck might! LOL

A 7.62 will go through a car door, no body armor won't protect against that type of round.

7.62xwhat? sur it wont stop 7.62x54r but it might stop 7.62x25 and i do beleave there is BA out there made to stop a 7.62x39. car doors are just sheet metal there not designed to stop bullets, BA is!

If it did stop it, I bet you'll be laying on your back wishing it hadn't. I can't imagine how much that would hurt taking one in the chest.

The Ballistic plating that adds onto the vests will protect against military .30 caliber including .30-06 AP, .308 FMJ, .223, and 7.62 x 39.

Heavy, though and I'd not want to test it.

There are several different types of ballistic trauma plate inserts available for Body Armor. depending on the manufactuer they provide protection to the vital organ areas from military class rifle ammunition, But rest assured it still hurts and you can still die as a result of the shock of repeated multiple impacts.

The sappy plates we're issued are SUPPOSED to stop three 7.62x39 rounds. But I've seen them crack after one. and if i can remember right the guy had about 3 or 4 broken ribs. he was down for the count, but he is still alive. That's all that matters. I dont know if you have the same ones the Marine Corps uses but yes it SHOULD stop an AK round cause there so big and slow. Now it most likely will not stop a 5.56 or .223. The velocity is way to high and the round is smaller. It's easier to puncture skin with a tiny needle than a bigger one. less surface area, same concept. Now I am not positive but that's what my old Gunny told me

Dumb question, but where do you buy "body armor"? Do you need a special license or something? Thanks for the feedback.

My vest which is used has a pocket for the plate. When my son was a dispatcher at our Sheriffs dept. they had a house cleaning and throwing away stuff.
My son retrieved it from the trash and it fits me perfectly.

Some times if your shot in the chest with the plate and doesn't penetrate, it can cause your heart to stop and you'll die.
I for got what it's called when that happens.

Fibrillation.

Which is why the thing that starts your heart again with a jolt of electricity is called a 'defibrillator'.
