need some advice for future rifle.

Ok, I am at a complete crossroads with these two, and want some oppinions/advice...

I am looking for somthing I can have fun at the range shooting out to 600m
the candidates are Springfields Loaded M1A or H&K SL8-6

I have fired the Socom II and like the rifle alot, the feel, and power/recoil, being a .308 down side is the growing price of ammo ect. ect...

I also have a deep love for H&K's SL8-6... i havnt had a chance to fire this, but the overal look of the rifle and what not I love. I also figure since the 2 retail about the same overal this being a 5.56 ammo will be cheaper.. tho will lack that little bit of oomff the .308 provides...

anyways any suggestions, advice, oppinions would be great.
oh yeah, and pics for clicks...

you might want to consider the mosin/nagant russian milsurp. rifles. they shoot
the 7.62x54r nato rd. which is around a .308, they are easy to find and not that expensive, a good mdl.91/30 wil be a little less than $100, and the ammo you can
get for around $45-60 for a 300rd. can.

and they will reach out that far, the sights will go up to 1200 yds. but i wouldn't try that distance without a scope.

I have an M1A scout squad. Its probably the most reliable and accurate gun I have next to a bolt action. Very nice trigger pull as well, and its not even the national match trigger. It has never misfired or slamfired and was well worth the 1500 dollars. Ammo price does suck, but, I reload for it.

7.62x54 is not a NATO round, but it can be fun

I have fired the M1A and they are great rifles. I have never been a fan of the 5.56 but I an intrigued by that H&K. I would have to try it. What is the going price for one like that?

If you're just considering the round, you can use a .30 caliber for a wider range of 'target' than you can a .22. As far as the gun, it's what you like to handle.
Oh, and what you can get parts and mags for.

the H&K is around 1800, and so is the socom II i fired, I was just afraid the socom being a 16'' barrel wouldnt hold up to the accuracy i was hoping for.. so being vertualy the same rifle i started lookin at the M1a's..

I wont be using this rifle to go hunting so target wise, the round size wont matter... its just that socom had such a nice feel to it, and im just affraid if i buy that H&K it would almost end up being boring like i shooting a bb gun... maybe im just thinkin about this too much...

as far as acesseries the only thing i would do to either is a red dot sight like the eotech and a possible bipod... i dont think i want a full blown scope

If you're going to spend over a grand on the rifle, I'd bite the bullet and go .308 if you want to shoot distance. Personally, I'd buy a NEF Handi Rifle in .308 and save the cash and dump my shots in the bull at 500 yards. It's not cool looking, but the single shot may make you a better marksman. I own 5 Handis and even my .357 and .45-70 smack where I want them at 300 yards. My Marlins and Rugers don't outshoot them.

I dont know what happend, i just replied and it never showed up... ah well...

ok anyways im mostly afraid that if i did buy the hk I would become board with it. sorta like its a expencive bb gun for the range,.. or maybe im just thinking too much about it.

i dont need the larger round on the other hand because i wont be hunting with this rifle... and even in a home defence situation I have a 1911, and Glock 23 that would be more accessable...

and about the mosin, im not opposed to tryin one... but i have wanted one of these 2 rifles for awhile now, and one will be mine if i can make up my mind :-)
