| Senior Member  | " I Shot Tom" ....Turkey That is... I decided this year would be the first year hunting turkey with my Ruger Over and Under Red Label 12 over 12. I loaded her up with the 3" Remington Premier Heavy Shot Nitro Magnums 1.5 - 4. I have only seven acres so i choose a spot where the birds come out of the roost and land on a slight slope that levels out at the bottom. I started calling on a wooden box call, chirping softly hoping they roosted there last night . I was not able to put them to sleep but most of the time this is where they like it at night. Not more than three calls later something came crashing down way up in front of me near a old AT&T line clearing . One more call softer than the others with a short whine i could make him out. Red head and beard. Looking for a good shot was not going to happen this time as he must of made me or being distracted moved parallel in front of me. There was an old trail that i though i could move to and beat him to a better advantage point but did not take it. He started off as a fast walk as i slid the shotgun up and against my cheek. I picked out a open area roughly 30 yards in front of him hoping he would pass into it and sure enough soon as his head broke the small opening i pulled one off. He staggered so i let him have another one in a last ditch shot as he started to disappear around a large oak tree. I stood up and started walking towards the last placed shot, around 60 yards away. There he was, eyes open but still and with his neck up. Countless holes in his head. I could not believe i bagged him. I scratched my head and tagged him and carried him to my backyard. The first i have ever shot with this 12 ga. The only down side to the story is that this old bird was a supper meal and he tasted like the bottom of a old shoe. So it looks like the rest of him will be used in some turkey noodle soup LOL. Hope ya enjoy the pictures.........earl |

| Senior Member   | Mr Easter CONGRADULATIONS buddy LOL thats a nice Tom you got there. I went Friday morning and invited my neighbor to come along, he's pretty good at calling up turkeys. It was kind of funny because both of us are haveing neck problems LOL...LOL !!! It's little hard for me to turn left and it's a little hard for him to look right. So we sat in such away we could see each other. LOL We never heard a turkey gobble nor saw one and the ticks though we were wet with OFF were all over us, so we left the woods at 10:30 My neighbor had his walker game ear on and he said LISTEN !!! And I said WHAT and he said I hear hogs !!! So I said where and I want to see them but we didn't find them but we did see where they had rooted. I hope they hang around I'd like to hunt them. Earl good job on the turkey !!! |

I think the jeep is full of gas so i could swing up there to Canada and make it to Texas in .................................................. ... | Senior Member  | Nice bird Earl, I am jealous. My uncle has some property here that has a lot of turkeys they are just impossible to find i guess. Of course i have never actually turkey hunted, i might have to give it a go this fall. That too bad he tasted like and old shoe! lol |

I traded two for the ruger over and under and miss them a little. toolman thank you, glad ya looked at the pictures. Hi ya sell33 Last time i heard Ohio was pert'n'ear loaded with the turkeys. Good luck iffin ya go in the fall then ya can share your pix with us then...Yep, tasted like an old flip flop bottom....LOL......., but the turkey soup is the best, thats when the wife makes it, i just seem to miss a few ingredients and she won't give me hers,i guess i better keep her around for a long spell.... |

Glad ya enjoyed the pictures, i thought the story a little on the long side,but this type of bird hunting is my favorite, along with the grouse and pheasants hunting, so the stories seem to get real detailed............LOL......sorry for that.
