Smile 12 gauge works pretty good.

Hey, guys sorry I havnt posted anything in a while. I posted how I thought the 20 gauge shotgun was too much. Well this weekend I shot my dads Winchester SX1, no problem at all! I really dont know why I was so afraid of that old gun, hardley even feel it. Now that I know i can shoot it fine what is the best 12 gauge turkey load, the gun is semi-auto.

Have you shot a turkey load out of it? They will indefietly kick a lot more than anything else. If you do shoot turkey loads I like Winchester Supreme.

As i have said before, there are 2 kinds of recoil, perceived recoil (how hard it kicks in your inagination) and felt recoil. BOTH can and will be controlled nomatter the caliber with proper shooting techniuqes. Sounds to me like you have learned the lesson of preceived recoil. Kudos

turkey load

nc. hunter: Sir; congratulations on the experience. Sir; you've got a great start.
Should you use "turkey loads" don't sit with your back firmly against a tree when you pull the trigger it just might 'bite'

I kid you not, the first time my buddy and I took my new 12g shotgun out, we flipped a coin to see who would take the first shot. I've never had such a "oh man" feeling just as I pulled the trigger. I must say it took getting use to. Such a jolt. Now I love shooting trap all day!

glad to hear you realized it wasnt so bad. first time i shot my 12 guage (keep in mind it is only a pardner single shot) i took some 7 1/2 target load and 1 3" magnum slug. shot a few of the target loads and just bit the bullet and shot the magnum slug. god what a rush. kicked like a mule too. haha

A 12ga turkey load will kick slightly more than a 30-06, just fyi. At least that's what I've found.

a turkey load is definitley gonna kick more. i always use federals. i used to use just the regular turkey magnum. but i switched to federals with the FLITE CONTROL wad. they shoot a lot better in both of my 12s. i shoot 3.5" #6s in one of my guns and 3" #6s in the other. i've used winchesters too and they work okay. but the federals are definitely my first choice. they make them in 2.75" if you're gun won't shoot the magnums. i gave a couple to my girlfriends dad to try and i think he's gonna switch to them too.

but different guns like different loads. they all shoot them different. best to get a box of 3 or 4 different kinds and see what shoots best and what you like best. get different brands and different shot sizes. it gets expensive but best to find to shoots the best.
