| Senior Member | The removal of the laucher is done by removing the pin and unscrewing it. You will have a threaded end on the barrel now. I am not sure if the block is pinned and pressed on, and if replacements will fit.I would recommend selling off the Yugo and buying a Chinese or Russian gun. It will be less aggrevating, less troublesome, and may be less expensive in the long run. |

| Sell the YUGO and buy a Chinese or Russian SKS. What you want to do is not impossible but with the time and effort and cost its not worth it. Suggestion take the selector button out then rotate it over to the semi-auto position and weld the hole closed and the gas valve in place. Just curious whats bothering you about the selective gas block. |

| Collecting and Shooting the Military Surplus Rifle (2006) - Surplusrifle.com As stated by others, there's a pin you have to remove then the grenade launcher unscrews. The above link is to remove it without damaging it so if at a later date you want to sell it with it or put it back on?

| Thank you all for the advice! After thinking about it I decided to leave the existing button gas port selector in place and replace the grenade launcher with one of the Tapco muzle breaks and just remove the grenade sight. I have had good luck with the Yugo SKS's : I own three of them. Two are intact and the other has heen modified to be darn near a tack driver (1.5 MOA @100 yrds), so I am not willing to repalce it with a Russian or Chinese version. I have owned one of each befor the ban and found them to be, in my opinion, a lesser quality rifle. The idea that I would have to purchase and remill the front sight assembly and gas port assembly to fit on a Yugo deos not sound appealing! Thanks to all of you who responded, it was a great help! Just so you know, I had to remve the pin and use a pipe wrench with an 18" pry bar with the gun frame wraped in saddle leather and a 1"x2" on each side stuck in a bench vice to get the grenade tube off. No twisting of the reciever or barrel by micrometer measurment but the grenade launcher has serious maring in it! To me the button gas sellector is just a nusance in the field. I think I will just silver solder it in place. Thanks Last edited by Wade; 04-30-2008 at 11:31 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
