Striped!

I have an old .22 that was given to me by a good friend. However the screw hole in the reciever (made of aluminum or alloy) is just striped. The screw is made of steel but the threads in the hole are gone. It holds the whole thing to the stock. I think he tightened it too tight. Any ideas how I can put it back together?

If its a tapped slug of Aluim. it can easily be replaced. You can possibly tap it for again and get the thread straightened up or have it drilled and tapped for a size larger screw..

for a stripped screw (striped is like a skunk), a helicoil is my first choice.

Adding too: sometimes 'brazing, welding, expoxy, will and can be employed to fill the hole for re tapping.

Yep tapped in the bottom of the reciever.

The screw is fine. I have a D camera but I cannot figure out how to post pics on here. Just don't work! lol The steel screw goes threw the bottem close to the trigger gard. It goes up into the reciever and holds the whole barrel and everything else to the stock.

An industrial supply place should have a Helicoil.

Sometimes the action lugs are removable. Either screw in themselves or fit into a dovetail type slot. You don't mention what kind of rifle it is. But if the lug is removeable, it might be worth checking Numrich Arms to see if they have one.

Nope just drilled and tapped. It is a Sears and roebuck modle. It's an old gun and it has a lot of problems but it was given to me by a friend and it is still accurate.
