I Like BIG Weapons

My buddy sighting in his 50 cal just before he let me fire three downrange. Needless to say, I got nothing but 10's!

I like em too!
This 4/25/08 weekend had a special invite to shoot the AR-50 at a National Guard pratice range. Was knocking out targets at 700-800 yards. Called my wife, the lovely and gracious Miss Pat, told her I was in love. She asked, "With what?"

Rifle is not mine. I did bring an M1 Garand with custom Mesquite stock and let the Guardsmen shoot it. They were hitting target shilloettes at 3 and 400 yards. "Good shooting rifle!" they commeted.

I know what you guys mean! I met a guy at the club range the first time I went, and he let me shoot two out of his AR-50. He warned me that he might as well be handing me a crack pipe, that shooting .50's is addictive. I think he's right, I think about it often, that was so cool!

Shooting at a 12"x12"x1" steel plate at 600 yards. I wish I knew if I'd hit it, but I didn't see it, and the owner was watching me and the gun, not the target. He gave me an AP round, and there were three holes through the plate, I wish I knew if one was mine. I couldn't believe that I could see the target at 600 yards, and hold the crosshairs dead on it, rock solid. I've never shot a rifle that heavy, solid and stable. It was a hoot!

If there was anywhere to shoot one of them cannons, I'd save up and get one also. There's very few places for me around here to shoot rifles let alone one of those. So it'd just be a big waste of money for me.

I'd love to get the chance to fire one someday.

Hmmm, let's picture the effects of a .50BMG on a varmint, HMMMM, picture hamburger at the deli only not quite as neat and clean looking. More tears and rips in it. Oh and very little meat left as it's all over the woods. lmao

This is true, the range we were at was limited to 100 yards. I would have loved to try a 5-600 yard shot.

Would that be anything like the effects of the 8-gauge (black powder shells) punt gun I got to try on some ducks in Minnesota when I was 12 or so? We paddled up close, I got that lo-o-ong barrel pointed in the generally correct direction while lying in the bottom of the boat, and then someone else in the hunting party corked off a round from his 12-gauge to get them up off the water before I pulled the trigger. We pulled 16 ducks out of the water after we'd paddled back the 50 yards that blast shoved us back... My shoulder hurt, but was unbroken, because the skidding back through the water helped reduce the recoil effects...

Reminiscent of a 37mm canister load...

FMT a MESQUITE stock? That is an awful hard wood! No pun intended, it's murder on chain saw blades and I've seen carbide and tungsten bits ruined by working Mesquite and from personal experience it's a chore to split.! But my goodness it is when finished a beautiful piece of wood!

Not to take away from the BiG GunS
Found out UV light and Tung Oil make wood dark and rich. I will be stripping the true off mine and redo with Tung OIl and let sit in sun and get a tan.

This next pic is where the stock was too short.

Searched Prices on 50 cals. OMFG!!!
The standard bolt rifle is about $3000 and a semi-auto can go to $8300.
Aim or JG had French BMG 50 for sale. Hmm? 10 rounds $39 bucks?
A little pricey.
As mentioned, don't know where to shoot them.
I've heard there is 1000 yard + competitions like regular high power matches.
The AR-50 semi-auto sounded like an AR-15 with the recoil spring in the butt stock. Ya could here the "boing" with each shot

Would definitely reload if I got one. Of course, if I got one maybe I could also afford just buying them rounds, too.

I can't speak for the .50's effect on prairie dogs, but I can tell you first-hand what a burst from my M2 did to some two-legged varmints..... and the walls/house they hid behind. ________________________

We didn't feel like digging through the ruined mud-brick hovel to see exactly how much meat was left. I was surprised that the first 5-7 M33 (ball) & M10 (tracer)rounds I fired caused the building to pretty much collapse.

There's a growing effort by the gun-grabbers to ban .50 firearms. There's quite a bit of new propaganda floating around the internet & mass-media, trying to scare the populace into thinking terrorists are going to start shooting down airliners in bulk with Barrets. I've heard tell of legislation being introduced aimed at not only an outright banning of all .50 rifles & pistols, but also making the bans retroactive... i.e. no grandfathered .50 firearms. So those of us that own such things would be made instant criminals.

Here's something for a laugh.
"Heat-seeking Bullets?!??

No, no, it's the gangbangers who are suddenly going to be toting these big long heavy .50 cals for drive by shootings that are causing the problem.

I wish I could afford a .50 cal. The media would have us believe every criminal in a dark alley is hiding a .50 under his trench coat. Yeah right.

I'm just wondering if the sound of a 50 caliber gun going off 2 0r 3 times would cause a trespasser to take note and haul azz !

I don't mean aim at them, just let'em here it ! LOL !!!

Heck, the muzzle blast alone would knock them off your property.
