Red face Winchester 1897

I was wondering if there is anyway to find out who bought a Winchester model 1897, with the serial 5032XX. I know that it was manufactured in 1912 but my problem is this:

My husband got this gun from his Dad when he died, who got it from his dad as well, from what we understand he also got it from his father. I was trying to find who actually bought it so we would know just how far back in the generations it really goes. Any help would be great.

Welcome to the site. I'm sure someone might have some help to offer? Just give it sometime.

The year of manufacture for serial number 5032XX is 1912. < copy and pasted from the search from that site.

unless it was a special order gun, there is know way you'll ever be able to track it to the original buyer.

Wouldn't the great grandpa be about the right age in 1912?

Tou can try the Cody Museum, they can (for a fee) tell you when it was made , where and when it was shipped, if the records weren't destroyed in the fire. I have a couple of old Winchesters an 1894 takedown, pre '64 pre war m-70 and an 1897 made in '38 and shipped to a prison, which traded it in to a local police supply house in 1985 for Rem 870. I have all the docs for it and trippled its worth on the open market, I shoot it at matches 2-3 times a year. It has alot of history to it and being ex-corrections has even more intrinsical worth to me.
