Do you need a license to shoot small game?

If so how much does it cost? I want to hunt, but I'm poor and I have very little extra income to spend on a license. Is there any way I can hunt for free? And where can I hunt? I live in RI by the way.

It appears to be $18 for a general hunting license in RI after you take the Hunter's Ed. Course: http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/bpola...fs/hunting.pdf

I would suggest going to your local sporting goods store and asking if they have a pamphlet/brochure on hunting in your state.

Most states do reguire a small game license to hunt small game.The only way around it would be if you are a property owner, which entitles you to hunt the property that you own without a license.Some states also allow actively employed people in the military to not reguire a license but all states may not be the same.As mentioned the best thing to do would be to check your states hunting rules and regulations.

In Arkansaw unless you are under some age ( don't remember) all you have to do is buy a license. You can get one for $10.

Ask your dept of fish and game/wildlife for some regulations and read them cover to cover. Also ask them your question. Your state may have as some do, a license or lesser license fee for people in low income brackets so that they are not barred form hunting for economic reasons. Afterall some people need to rely on such a resource to suppliment there food source.

You likely can find this info online as well.

I do believe that ALL states in this country require a hunting license. There are diffrent licenses for diffrent aspects of the sport in LA. Archery, muzzleloader (blackpowder), small game, big game, duck, turkey and regular fire arms i.e. modern arms and combination, i.e. small & big game. I think that just about covers all the divisions but I may be wrong.

We just bought our 4 month old a LIFETIME license that covers hunting and inland fishing for the rest of his life. Includes hunting for big game, hunting on game lands, hunting for waterfowl (does not include federal duck stamp), fishing in designated Public Mountain Trout Waters, fishing in trout waters on game lands, and fishing in joint waters. It does not include fishing in coastal waters.

It was only $200. God bless North Carolina.

Silent, that is an awesome deal! Too bad NM doesn't do that.

The small game and fishing package here, including habitat stamps, comes out to 43.

In good old New Zealand there is only the gamebird licence and freshwater fishing licence which have seasons (tight ones for game birds and pretty loose ones for trout) otherwise its all free and easy (a relative term) Public land of which there is millions of acres just require a free permit. There are some very basic rules however, for instance rimfire rifles and shotguns are not allowed in most parklands.

Private land is pretty much anything the landowner is happy with.

No one that hunts is poor.Financially limited yes,but hunters are rich beyond wealthy non hunters dreams.Look at it this way,you can use the license for a year over and over.If you are up town instead of hunting,how much are you going to spend because you arent out hunting? sam.

Just about everything anymore requires a fee and or license to have or do.

Moose said it best; Contact YOUR local fish and game dept. and ask them and or have them send you the particulars in writing. That way you have it in black and white and if anything has recently changed, they'll know it before anyone else...
