WooHoo! C&R Happy Dance

Got my C&R today. Took 1 month almost exactly. Now if that check would just show up. Let's see, M44 or M38? J&G sales or SOG?
Serious question: Do you guys see any difference in the quality of either the M44s or M38s? Is one "better" than the other? I guess I'm thinking of the overall condition and the condition of the bore.
Thanks

Just buy one of each and remember to get a 91/30 as well.

Oh and congrats on the C&R...

That one's hard to judge really, both saw action somewhere. I don't know if accuracy is any different from the 38 to the 44. I don't shoot well enough to have noticed between my 2 anyway. The wood I have seen has been comparable on both, with the rare exceptions both ways.

I saw a nice 38 at the show this weekend with near perfect rifling, no counterboring, a severely eroded bolt-face, beautiful wood, no matching numbers, and stampings done with broken tools. It would probably make a great shooter, but not really collectible.

As far as "better" goes, the 44 comes with an attached bayonet. That irritates the Brady's and their followers...

Well, anything that will irritate the Bradys... Actually I already have a 91/30 which I dearly love. All stamped matching, not counterbored. Reason I asked about condition is, I was looking at another forum and apparently people have been getting a hold of some Yugo Mausers with really good bores. I want to stick with the Mosins for awhile because I like the idea of having several guns that shoot the same (cheap) ammo. I just wondered if any particular model that are "in the pipeline" now seemed better than the other. Anyway, I really like the Mosins. Dirt cheap, dirt simple, and a blast to shoot.

I have both and really cant see much difference in the way they shoot .. I like the m44 a we bit better than the m 38 it holds pattern a tiny bit better and I like the feel of it better but its just me and its a personal thing ..I happen to be a bit partial to my m44 as it was my first !

ohhh congrats on the CR and I hope you use it to get your new rifle

I prefer the m44 myself. If I was hunting then I'd probably use the 91/30.

Thanks Marion. I think I will. Saw an M44 in a pawn shop the other day. and was tempted to make an offer. I didn't get a chance to look at it too closely (my son was looking for a used amp) but it was a clean '45 Ishevsk. They had it marked 169.00. Don't know what they might have taken for it. I want to try the mail order deals though.

Dittos Jeff!
Happy collecting. The Swiss K-31 is also or can be a great shooter. Ammo little more costly.
Congrats on the 03 license.

Another happy C&R owner.

As far as the debate... M39 to start. Arguably the best shooter in the MN family. For a lower cost... 1946-1948 M44. The bores are generally very nice, but you may have to adjust the sights if you don't want to shoot with the bayo extened. Curiously enough I have 4 (one in a camo stock).

be careful about how you sign those some dealers require you sign in red ink like century!
I put my original on the computer unsigned so can make more to send out

A lot of dealers like red ink. Then there's no doubt about it being an original signature. But this makes me wonder why some will accept a faxed one!
