Poor boy Mosin Nagant Trigger Job

I see lots of people asking about a "trigger job" on the Mosin Nagant. But most aren't willing to pay $70 for the HC. Well here's what I've done and it works great. Standard disclaimers apply. Do this at your own risk.

You'll need a drill press a 8/32 tap, cutting oil, 8/32 allen screw with pointed end, center punch and some luck. Ready?

So basically you centerpunch to mark the location for the hole you are going to drill so your bit doesn't walk (see picture). Use slow steady pressure on the drill press until it starts. Be sure you use lots of cutting oil to keep from burning up the drill bit. Tap the threads and install the screw. Now clean off the oil and lock tite the allen screw. Congrats you now have an adjustable trigger with lower drag than the original. Now reinstall to the rifle. Be sure it's unloaded. Next you'll have to set the trigger to be sure it's safe. It is possible to set screw low enough that the sear will not engage the bolt or to have it set where it will but if you drop the rifle it will fire. Be sure you set the trigger up so that it is safe! You will still have lots of creep or travel in the trigger but the pull will be light and the trigger will break cleanly.

get so low on the trigger before the rifle does not cock or it becomes unsafe.

I have see this posted before and different versions of this. I guess I am lazy as I have found a different ways to lighten the trigger pull and reduce creep.

or just shave it down so it'll hold for about 2secs. then to fire the gun u cock it and leave lever up....when time to fire, just drop cocking handle and count to 2....

This is not an unsafe mod if you set up the trigger correctly and do a drop test (drop but on floor from a foot or two be sure rifle didn't fire)...Like any adjustable trigger install BTW. Like I said you could make your Mosin unsafe if you don't set it properly...that doesn't mean that an anjustable trigger is unsafe. Don't forget to loctite the screw to keep it from backing out! (ask me how I know!). I built 5 of these for my Nagants and a few for my brothers and Dad now. They all said what a big improvement they are.

are you serious? BANNED? i'll take that with a grain of salt till i hear from a moderator.
there's nothing unsafe about this mod or any of the other trigger mods. not when done right. if someone doesn't have the sense to follow directions they probably shouldn't modify weapons. heck, they probably shouldn't even be using weapons for that matter.

p.s. my ruskie m44's trigger has been shimmed as enfield trader's post refered to. same result as the trigger mod without the benefit of a possibly smoother trigger.

Push the button and the bayo snaps open. The tricky part is getting it over the muzzle.

A simpler way to go is to simply remove the sear/spring unit and place thin shims under it (hole drilled or punched in the shims to allow the screw to pass thru). I have used thin brass sheet, small sqares cut out of a soft drink can, even plastic from old credit cards. Add shims until one of three things happens -- 1. You get the trigger you want;2. The shims get so thick the screw won't engage; 3. You get unsafe sear engagement (test this by cocking the gun and repeatedly thumping the butt on a hard padded surface).

This will not produce a match-grade trigger, but the amount of improvement you get will be noticeable and, often, downright amazing. I like this method because it takes only minutes, it requires zero equipment or manual skills, and it requires no permanent alteration of the rifle. It's a mod you will find often on originals, especially snipers.
