If it is worn, might it be the No.1 Mk.III*?
The '*' indicates some improvement - can't recall offhand what though.
Never seen mention of an 'S'.

The No1 Mk III was modified in during WW1 to the No1 Mk III*. The modifications were wartime manufacturing simplifications that included removal of the magazine cutoff and volley sights.
