Need Help on a .22 cal semi-auto

yrs ago I saw a .22 cal rifle. It was a very small ( maybe youth model) semi-auto. It broke down and everything went into the stock. it also floated. I can't remember the name of it. I was hoping some of you gun guru's could help me out wit h a name and maybe a pic or 2. My wife is looking for a light weight .22 she can shoot. I thought of this one, but can't remember the name. I saw it when I was a kid so its been around for about 25 yrs. THANKS for any help

actually Billy my wife found a pic of the rifle I was looking for. and ya thats the one. only when I saw it, it was called a Charter arms ar7 explorer. just found out that Henry bought the patten for it in the 80's. thanks for the help dude. nice pic also

Charter arms AR-7 are JUNK...They look cool, but save your money !

Now that Henry builds it, it's probably 100 % better than the ones Charter built.

Henry put's a lot of Pride in the manufacturing of there firearms.

If you want one buy it...A.H

Why exactly do you want one of those? Why not a 10/22 or Henry Lever Action .22LR carbine? She might prefer something a little more solid...

Our WalMart has/had one. They are great for backpacking, or throwing in a plane, etc. But they are not very accurate!

The new Henry version of the Survival Rifle is better than the others - they's had at least four different owners/names, as I can recall.
The real weak point was the magazine - Henry really improved it - I believe they also smoothed the action.
The older ones worked better with hotter ammo, like CCI Minimags and Stingers. The lower-speed ammo would hang up.
My buddy has the Charter rifle and their 'Explorer' pistol version - both are okay shooters.
Ruger made (and maybe still make?) a folding stock/barrel version of the 10-22 - or maybe it was another vendor making the system? That would be a sweet pack gun!
If weight is an issue, look for the classic old Remington Nylon 66 - very light and handy, and very good and reliable shooters.

FS00008 the reason shes wanting one is because of the weight. She has shot a model 60 and my old model 39A, but because of her size and strength she has a real problem with them. She is a new shooter ( man did I create a monster lol), but she really enjoys shooting. As soon as I found out she likes shooting .22's. I started putting differant models in her hands. even the new lightweight syn.'s ( new Mossberg and marlin's) were a weight and length prob. for her. the one that fits her best is a Cricket, but it only comes in a single shot. The Henry was closest in size and weight in an auto. I think theres a "neato" factor involved also, because of the way it looks.
BigDog the 66 was my 1st thought as well. most reliable .22 auto I have ever seen. Hard to find one these days. There is a new model 76 out now. same design. But still very hard for me to find. I'm going to try and see if I can get her and one together at the next gun show.

I need to retract something the nylon 76 isn't new. I went to Remingtons website and didn't find much on them or the 66's. The 76 is new to me.

Ah... that makes sense I suppose. I do like the "Cool" factor that those things have. I think they'd be a great backpack/backup truck gun haha.
