Ammo anyone?

Im just wondering what ammunition works best for everyone as far as brand name goes. I'm a big fan of remington and winchester myself. Ive got remington .380 88gr hollowpoints and remmy .380 FMJ's for mine. I think winchester is the best. What about you?

I also use winchester and remington .380; I have had no problems with those. My carry ammo is federal hydra-shok and I have not shot any of that (and hope not to!).

Well I spoke tothe gun store owner and he said that winchester was voted #1 as far as quality and federal a close 2nd either one would work well and have had good experience with both

That is a mistake not shooting/testing your "carry" ammo.

A couple of questions. How do you know if it will cycle? How much difference is the point of aim from your practice ammo?

My feg does not cycle federal hydroshocks.

Shoot a few mags of these rounds and report back. For your own safety.

Actually, this is a good idea. The hollowpoint Remmies I carry are not too expensive either. I got a box of 100 for 32 bucks. I shot 100 rounds of it thru my PPH and got no jams. Consider the remington .380 JHP 88gr. Theyre good hollowpoints and theyre not too expensive, and as far as my experience goes very reliable.

Mrs.S, Ouch is giving you good advice. You need to go to the range and shoot at least 1 clip of your carry ammo to see if the point of aim is the same or if you need to adjust for the difference with the carry ammo and to be sure that your gun feeds and functions properly with the carry ammo. If there is a problem its better to find and correct it at the range than in a life threatening situation. Please let us know how the range session went. We worry about our friends.

Advice that I do appreciate, especially being fairly new to guns....I am still in the learning process and have learned plenty here, thus far. I am expecting severe storms here tomorrow but if not, I plan on going then.

I use Magtech's Guardian Gold 185+P in my .45. 540 ft. lbs of muzzle energy. The only thing I've found yet with more mz. energy is the Doubletap Speer Gold Dot 185+P - that's 616 ft. lbs! Expansion is great, weight retention is good and energy transfer is incredible.

I have yet to make it to the range to shoot my hydra-shoks so for now I have loaded up with my winchester ammo; I know for sure my gun shoots that!

I've tried a number of different brands of ammo, and my PMK spits them all out about the same, without problems.

For personal defense in my FEG, I use Federal Ammo Self Defense .380 JHP's.

My Mossberg 500A Shotgun HATES Winchester shotshells, the expended shells often become stuck in the breech and I have to use my muzzleloader's ramrod or a piece of clothes hanger to knock it out. I found that it has no problem cycling Federal or Remington shells so I usually stick to those. As for rifle and pistol use, I go with Winchester or Federal for the rifles and anything but Wolf for my pistols. Wolf has a tedency to stove pipe in my .45 GI and my M1 Carbine.

My experience has been that there is nothing wrong with using Wolf ammo in these old Soviet pistols since they were designed to use steel cased ammo. However, you can get jams if you mix brass and steel cased ammo because the steel casings can allow a little carbon into the chamber because they do not seal as tightly. Then when the brass expands it sticks to the carbon. As long as you use either only brass or only steel cases there should be no problem.

I like Winchester and federal for rifle and pistol. For shotgun I like Winchester. I liked Fiocchi and Olympia when I was on my College Trap/Skeet team(1994-1995). I haven't shot any in years. I do know the Olympia was the cleanest I've ever used. Are they still in business?

As a rule of thumb for fire arms, you have to test fire your carry ammunitions in the target range, take for instance a friend of mine who says that glaser is expensive (here in the philippines it is indeed very expensive) so he never fires one on the target range. Latter on, he found out the hard way that glaser ammunitions does not feed well and could not cycle his slide properly it was a 9mm Feg, lucky for him he was not hit by his assailant. In my case (my feg 9mm is my sidearm since i am a member of the phil. marines) I am comfortable with an alternate of FMJ and Hollow points in my magazine. Use federal ammunition or cor bon, though cor bon 9mm ammunitions is a little hard to find here in the phil.
