I just bought 200 Win. 209 shotshell primers @ WalMart and the young lady went straight to them, unfortunately, she dropped a pack of CCI rifle primers next to them and they scattered everywhere. Most of the folks at our local stores are pretty good-some even work at other local gunstores.

Let me get this straight. Say you're catfishing troy. You have to have a two/second rod stamp to fish two poles?

I think the sporting goods people are pretty good, but part of the problem is if there's a call in the Customer Service Managers have to find a replacement, and they don't know who knows what, some don't know anything about anything not directly involving a cash register since most are promoted cashiers with little to no additional training, so they pull someone from where they think they would be missed the least and don't put much thought into it(not that they have time to, they have to go listen to a customer scream), when they need to have a small group of people they go to in those cases. but that's low level management for you, and we have people who get promoted to CSM after a couple months, half of them are part time, it's not pretty. then if the front end asst mgr goes away they get more dumped on their plate

Geez, it's getting bad here after all.

Friday night, I drop by Wally's to get some ammo for the weekend, and a few camping items.

So I get one 100-round box of Win .38 Specials, two boxes of .22LR CCI Minimags, one 50-round box of CCI .22WMR Maximags.
Then I put on the counter, a two-burner camping stove, four Mountain House meal packets, a light fleece sleeping bag (it's getting to be summer, after all!)
and a couple six-packs of tent pegs (always good to have spares!).
The counter guy says, "Are you a Survivalist, gearing up?"

SHEESH.....

He'd crap himself if I really got 'serious'.

Yep. And for years, the law said one "closely attended" rod, period. I knew a guy who got ticketed for leaving his line in the water while he walked into his motor home to get a beer, although that was kind of extreme; the warden was just being a jerk. I think my friend could've fought it.

Trot lines are illegal, period. On the other hand, crawdad traps are legal...

That's amazing on the two pole license. Unattended trot lines is one of my pet peeves. Unattended as in not keeping them baited or marked. Being a drift fisherman from time to time it really makes me boil when I hang up one. The warden was being a jerk about the unattended pole. Oklahoma does have it's good points!

Guy: Ok sir how can i help you?
Remington 870 express 12 ga**
Guy: [opens case and takes it out]
(at this point my step dad has walked off and i'm standing at the counter with my 6 year old sister)
Guy: Is this for you?
No,i wanted to get her started young**[clearly unamused at the joke]
Guy:..... Do you have a license?
No, I'm waiting foir my step dad to bring it**
Guy/asshole: ok well when he gets here ask the cashier to ring it up.(he walks away stomping as if i had just wasted his time)

Had to laugh the other day. Was at a Walmart to get a box of 100 Winchester bullets for my 1911, and at the same time, a father and son were getting fishing licenses. So, the older gentleman working the counter was going back and fourth between myself and the father and son, and put my box of bullets aside on the counter. The kid looked at the box, and said, "wow... that's a lot of bullets!"

I smiled and said, "yeah, but they tend to go fast."

"How fast?" he asked.

I couldn't resist. "Oh, about 800 feet per second."

Meanwhile, the dad was staring at the box and drooling.

at my store there's two guys that I've become friends with, they're actually really good and I've gone fishing or hunting with them plenty of times.

They've also told me about quail "hotspots" other hunters brag to them about. Good guys!

Some years back, our state building maintenance supervisor moonlighted at Wally's - he was a hunter and all-round 'gun-guy'. Knew his stuff. We'd talk guns a lot here at work. I always went to Wally's when I knew he was working.
Then the Wally's expanded and remodeled into "Super Wally" and canned all the old hands - hired a bunch of know-nothings. Ah, the price of PROGRESS!

My oldest son just got his law license this year in our state. I told him for a graduation present that I had managed to get him a free trip to go hunting in Texas with Vice President Cheney.... For some reason, I don't think that he's interested...

Honest to god, this really happened in a Walmart in GA....
Said by the cashier after she put the box of .357 Mags on the counter: "Those bullets for a rifle or handgun?"
(It must be something they are required to say.)
My response after about a 7 second pause where I just looked at her: "Uh-huh."
Another 5 second pause as she thought about my answer, then: "Well, which it is? It can't be both, you know."
I couldn't resist. "Well, I have a rifle. This isn't handgun ammo, is it?"
She calls a manager. He arrives and she shows him the box of ammo. "Are these .357 Magnum bullets for a handgun or rifle?"
The manager looks her straight in the face and replies...."Uh-huh."

You didn't stick around to watch them vacuum the floor. Our sporting goods is carpeted at the counter.

DWF I once asked what the difference was in rifle and pistol .357 mag ammo. That was in 1990 I'm still waiting for a reply.
