| LOL! Double charge will do that to you and your gun. You are a lucky man, and I am glad that you weren't injured, and the M1 came out OK. Just a word of caution to all.
When out in the field(not so much on the shooting range) always check your breach, making sure there isn't any sand, dirt, grass particle that could hamper a total lock. I experienced a not fully locked breach on my M1 carbine due to the pin head of a sticker burr. Not pleasent, not pleasent at all. It blew primer portion of the casing out and left the rest in the barrel... not to mention leaving me blinded for about a minute and with a blooded face. I'm left handed, so everything came at me.
On the safety side. Regardless of a new gun, or older.... keep it clean and check it. I learned the hard way.
