Maybe try a little heat first. If cosmoline or crud it may make it easier to remove. A large soldering iron or small hand torch will usually do the job, do not over heat.

he may be the toolman, but an impact driver would be my last choice for a tool to be used on a gun.

Like my wife tells me, it's not what tool ya use it's all in how ya use it....

BTW Smokin N, another option is the use a small pair of Vice Grips to grab the outside of the screw, but it's going to get buggered up a bit. There are a bunch of ways to get it out, I prefer the easy ones first.

Here Smokin this is how you get that stuck screw out. You put the screwdriver in the slot and hold it tight. Have a friend turn you around as you hold that screwdriver. And in no time that stubborn screw will be out. Glad to help ya. Send me $20.

none of my freinds can turn my 200 pound ass if they wanted. im going now to the Depot to get the impact driver. i tried heat again, no luck, so if one of these tools are cheap, then sweet, if not, to the gunsmith.

but knowing my gunsmiths around here, it will either take 8 weeks, or they will tell me they cant get it out. we'll see

Here is a perfect solution: Just go buy another Mosin and put that one on the shelf as a display piece! This way you will have a MN to shoot while you try other ways to remove it or wait on the gunsmith.

I was gonna say to use needle nose vice grips. It'll mess up the screw, but you'll get it out. Plus you can't see the screw anyway. And if you're still concerned, just order a new one!

Yup! That stuff works great for loosening stuck screws and bolts. It penetrates much better than WD. Also, believe it or not, soaking the parts in Coca Cola overnight works too. That stuff will even eat through concrete.
